Why does it seem like no one cares about the state initiatives this election?

Gay marriage on the ballot in four states - Maine, Washington, Maryland, and Minnesota
Legalizing marijuana in two states - Colorado and Washington

Besides California's propositions there's also some immigration laws going around that I don't know much about, maybe someone could fill me in. It'll be be interesting to watch especially because all of these have a big chance of passing.

I don't keep track of any of that. New York doesn't allow propositions on the ballot anyway.

It should be obvious why the vast majority of attention is fixed to the presidental race. The world just doesn't want to talk about something lameass boring like gay marriage in Maine when the US is about to choose it's next president.

Can't speak for other states but here in Minnesota the marriage amendment is getting TONS of talk. Almost as much as the presidential race I'd say. Civil rights are a big deal to people.

I definently fvcking care.

voting no on both the voter ID and the gay marriage amendment here in Minnesota.

A LOT of placards on peoples lawns where i am and in the cities with "vote yes" and "vote no". even a billboard on I-35 for vote yes on the gay marriage ban with a hetero black couple as the pic.

the conservatives put a weird wording on it, it's called "vote yes for marriage" as though heterosexuals can't get married. it's just word playing, the truth of it is it it's "vote yes to ban gay marriage in the state of Minnesota".

I vote for the local stuff in state elections. Unlike the presidential election, my vote actually matters locally as San Diego is a Republican city.

Its crazy that weed is about to be flat out legal here. All the polls are showing it winning by a land slide.

The gay marriage one will pass too.

It solves something.

It gets people who have committed 3, yes 3, felonies off of the street.

It may not deter crime overall (seems research is still out on this one either way), but certainly it gets the offender off of the street. How many stints (strikes) does one need before they learn?

Agreed. If you've committed felonies to the point where you're getting sent to prison for the 3rd time, you obviously can't stop or don't care.

Pretty sure the big boys up top can just say no, as drugs are something taken care of at the federal level. Believe me, I'd love to see a lot of these issues settled by people who actually live in the state. But AFAIK, they can always override the vote.

well sure, the feds might raid the shops selling it (that should be intersting), but i mean that it will be legal under state law for recreational use not just medical use.

Bc it doesn't solve the actual problem and many of those felonies are related to drugs which i find fvcking stupid. Should be about rehabilitation, not extreme punishments that only create even more hardened convicts.

I may be wrong but i dont think they can just veto it, but they can show up and raid the shops and arrest the people selling it. If it passes (and it will) Washington state is basically going to war with the feds over it. Should be pretty crazy~

All in all it seems that its just a question of time before you see it being sold for recreational use in most states. People have had it with a losing drug war. So much revenue to be generated from it. They are saying like 1.5 billion over 2 years in Washington state.

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"][QUOTE="SaudiFury"] might come off as a humorous, but both my mom and i look forward to when we can smoke a joint together (like we did in Jamaica) :P hopefully it'll get passed.

What a great parent.

Same as a father drinking a beer with his son. i see no issue here.

I live in Washington state and I care a lot.

Its crazy that weed is about to be flat out legal here. All the polls are showing it winning by a land slide.

The gay marriage one will pass too.

Oh man, I can't wait until weed gets legalized. I'm curious to see what Obama or Romney will do.

:nice: My dad doesn't smoke anymore, but I doubt he'd give a sh*t if i smoked.

[QUOTE="l4dak47"] It's stupid and doesn't actually solve anything. I don't get why people think extreme punishments reduce crime; it doesn't and only wastes money/lives. l4dak47

It solves something.

It gets people who have committed 3, yes 3, felonies off of the street.

It may not deter crime overall (seems research is still out on this one either way), but certainly it gets the offender off of the street. How many stints (strikes) does one need before they learn?

Bc it doesn't solve the actual problem and many of those felonies are related to drugs which i find fvcking stupid. Should be about rehabilitation, not extreme punishments that only create even more hardened convicts.

Well, you aren't getting felony level charges for marijuana in Cali so obviously the dopers you are referring to are into some hard level **** Either way, your problem seems to be with drug policy and not the three strikes rule.
