Umm... because women retain a large percentage of bodyfat in order to be capable of menstruation / pregnancy? Hence why twelve year old girls look like bean poles while a sexually mature twenty-five year old Maxim model rounds out in all her curvaceous glory.

Hips are wide to make childbirth easier, extra fat storage in rear and thighs ensure a food supply for menstruation / pregnancy. Breasts are a development of standing upright, their size is due to them quite literally mimicking buttocks. So yeah - the reason breasts get ridiculous in size is to make you go "mmm... ogg like woman". Seriously... name another mammal with such impressive mamaries.

The "soft" appearance comes from estrogen, which makes skin / hair much softer to the touch.

I wouldn't call a woman a marshmallow though... you might get socked.
