sweet sixteens, proms, cheerleading, child beauty peagents, halloween costume parties, the obsession with US television shows and films...etc. etc. etc.

hip hop, rock & roll, house & techno..on and on and on

for a place that thinks of itself as superior to americans they sure pick up on a lot of americanisms. it all just confirms what the rest of the world has always suspected - brits really want to be americans......just don't tell them that though; they're a little sensitive on the subject.

Is that true? The US has the most powerful media in the world. Surely folks abroad are gonna emulate it eventually.

The best we have is fried crocodile and Thor  The economy here is good but it's not as good as having freedom and such variety in womens. It's sad that even after the NSA scandel America still has way more freedoms than almost anywhere else :(

America is a diverse nation. Heck there is not even one monolithic culture here. A person born and rasied here in NY would have a complete culture shock if he/she were to move to the Midwest.

I have some family in South(North Carolina) and their accents and culture are totally different from the Northeast. America is diverse, thats one of the best things about the nation.

Probably there is but it's less known. As you know it's all go down to the fact that no 2 people speak the same way lol

America is just the greatest. By golly it's the best place on the planet, nay, any planet. It has no problems, no moral issues, no social issues, no financial issues, every individuals is as smart as Einstein, no one argues with anyone's opinion on any subject, everyone gets treated as equals, no racism or sexism to be found, no one even dies, nothing wrong at all. They say "god bless America" so much because it's actually heaven. America created everything in the world (everything that matters anyway) and improved on the things others created because it's so great. Everything every American leader says is true because they're from America. Every law that's wrote in America is perfectly fair and justafiable because it was wrote in America. That's why everyone, even martians want to be American.

Seriously, we should just call the planet itself America because it's so great.

Scratch that, the entire galaxy should be called America.

Universe?

We steal a lot of ideas from British television, and current British shows are becoming much more popular in in the US.

In specific circumstances...but with the US accents....most shows/movies use a similar accent to the point that it doesn't sound like an accent to most Americans.

I think the california accent (SoCal) has become the standard accent you hear in most tv shows. its the most clear sounding and understandable of all american accents

Actually it's General American and most closely represents the Midwestern accent.

So. Why do Americans sound so different compared to the early 20th century? Not even a single actress sounds like Vivien Leigh in the Gone with the Wind for example. I did learn on youtube America won its own accent in the revolutionary war (see link below for possible laughs) and that's why the 4th of July is celebrated but why does it sound so different now?
