I loved the lord of the rings movies - This is a huge plothole in my opinion and I think it detracts from the ingenuity of the rest of the story

What the heck is a Graboid? I read all three books, which have more than the movies, and I don't remember anything by that name...although it was a while ago.

I had that exact same question too.

Because it would only take one orc with a bow and arrow and good aim to kill the bird and have the ring returned to Sauron, which would be very very bad.  And since there were millions of orcs, the good aim part wouldn't even be necessary.  The bird thing wouldn't have worked.

I was trying to remeber what the hell were the graboids, and then though "But, the graboids were from trimmers."  So, I almost had an aneurysm, thanks OP.
