Don't know about absence. They probably don't like school. But I know about getting late. On the first class that is. Some of us having problems with waking up. And/or are just lazy.
I was like that when I was in school. I always made sure I showed up to every lesson early/on time if it was a subject I liked. But all the others, I was almost always late or didn't show up. If I know I can pass the subject and don't care about the grade in that particular subject, then I don't need to be early or attend every lesson.
I used to have a 41 mile commute to make which indeed made it a pain getting to school on time and lead to alot of absences and tardies lets just say in the mornings when I would drive, it'd be slow and tied up as could be lol
Though nowadays my commute is only 6 miles so naturally my attendance in college has shot up, I go to community college anyways so nobody is real strict if you're a few minutes late or something :P
I wasnt a morning person + plus other things
I was once mistaken for someone who just plain didnt give a **** by a teacher (A delinquent, but I was actually trying for once in school at this time), because I was always a few minutes after the bell, when really, I was actually genuinely interested in the cIass(French).
I had just been making an attempt at Highschool after doing some alternative BS for 9th grade where I only had to go in twice a week, so of course it was hard to get into the groove of waking up and getting to school on time, but Its not like I could convey this to the teacher. I tried to get there on time, and I failed. Ended up going alternative again after I stopped going to that cIass
Some people also have home problems, health problems as mentioned, and so on.
There were some nights when I was in middle school where my family had big fights at like 2am (because of my sister[I liked to call them shouting matches =P]) and of course on those days I didnt go to school at all, or late.
Not to mention things like depression completely robbed me of my will to even want to try, so I stayed home as much as possible as well.
I was probably absent somewhere around what that girl was, if not much more in 7th grade alone.
Me, I never get late, but I'm absent 2/6 of the time. I'm just that lazy, I guess but I'm an intellectual person believe me.
Some have medical issues or other things which are of a higher priority other's are just delinquents. It's not like you can force a kid to go to class if they don't want to go.markop2003
Yes, its illegal for them not to..
I lived across the street from my high school and I used to be late everyday. I failed homeroom a few times. :?

OMG that was like a kid in my homeroom, he live in the same street of my school and he's always late.
I only been late 3 times this year, but one of my friend has been absent for about100 days this year.
I have to admit I'm the same way. I'm almost like that for work too... but because I work in management for my department.. they don't really care when I punch in or punch out as long as it's not extreme.I didn't start becoming late all the time until I began driving. I'm just not a punctual person. I'm a good student and I still show up, but I'll just be five or ten minutes late. Now that I'm in college, none of my teachers really care.

I know there can be legitimate issues for lateness, but if it's just a lack of focus or care, I have no sympathy. I always start my classes on time, and I really dislike the interruptions that late students provide.
I was constantly absent my junior year in high school... and I cut classes senior year and junior year A LOT. I did it because I hated my classes/the people in them... and I could get away with it. Sometimes I would ask to go to the bathroom and never comeb back or come back at the end of the class... and for whatever reason nobody would ever get me in trouble.
Never came late in school. I guess it was because of the harsh penalties they'd give you if you were late
I'm not at all a punctual person by nature, but I don't come late to class. There's this one 8:00 am class that I haven't gone to in over a month, but that class is cake.
i skipped a lot and was late a lot but ive had a job for 7 or 8 months now 4 days a week sometimes 5 and ive been late (other then like late bus) and ive never missed a day either. i seriously have not got sick in like such a long **** time
They don't believe in alarm clocks or they're the ones that stay up until 2 am on a school night for no apparent reason.Â
It could be for any number of reasons. It's not like the system we live by is perfect and fitting for everyone. People have issues and many of those issues are the results of trying to maintain within the flawed system. Imo, it's fairly easy to understand and/or imagine why some don't show up, but it may be hard to fathom if you have a hive mentality.
Im one of those students. I was good up till this year, my junior year, and now its just gotten bad. There are reasons though, like for one, I just have not been able to sleep, Ill lay awake for 6 to 7 hours, then my alarms go off, and Im exhausted to go to school, and also I go to a school with stuck up people that think their hot **** and I honeslty cant stand any of them.
