Why did they have to go and get Oprah for the narration? Why couldn't they keep Attenborough.

Is this also a BBC documentary as Planet Earth? Is David Attenborough hosting it?

I think Oprah Winfrey is narrating it in the US edition.

EDIT: And yes, it's made by the BBC, in association with Discovery, Open University and Skai TV. David Attenborough narrated it in the UK version, and it was pretty amazing. It's certainly one of my next Blu-Ray purchases.

I've seen it. It's amazing. Watch it! Its a shame they had Oprah narrate the US version though.

Yeah I was surprised by that, but perhaps Discovery felt that David Attenborough wouldn't appeal to the US audience so well.

I didn't really have any interest in it before (love Planet Earth; don't have any desire for this), but this really makes me not want to watch it.

They did the same with Planet Earth. But had Sigourney Weaver perform the narration for that one. I'm not sure why they've replaced Attenborough both times. Even if most American's don't know the name, I'm sure most know his voice.

Which is a shame because Attenborough is the god of nature documentaries.

I guess they took him off either because they figured that the British accent would be offputting to the average American viewer (let's not forget how many people claimed they needed to "learn british" in order to understand Harry Potter) and/or because they thought that more people would tune in if they had an American celebrity doing the narration. They pulled this **** with Planet Earth too IIRC. They had Segurny Weaver do the narration for the US version (or maybe that was just the Disney version, I can't remember).

How is it different from Planet Earth? And Oprah's narrating it? No thanks. And besides, I don't have Discovery Channel in HD so it's worthless to me. I'll wait for the Blu-ray and only buy it if they have a different narrator and if it's different enough from Planet Earth.

The whole "Oprah is narrating so Im not watching" is kind of ridiculous, her voice isn't THAT annoying...hell I dont think it is annoying at all, not annoying or bad enough to not watch this amazing show.
