The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and The Quick and the Dead are the only ones that come to mind.

i assume you've read louis l'amour books?  you might want to check out shane.  if you haven't checked him out, pehaps you should.  he is one of the best selling western writers in some aspects for good reason.

I don't really like to categorize it, but if I had to choose, I'd put it under "ownage".

in the book two cowboys are herding horses and they rescue some immigrant women that are about to be sold into prostitution, I don't want to spoil anything but it made me connect and feel sadness for their defenselessness(of the women I mean) - It has some pretty sad moments - but it is a good book

I'll make sure and try the book. What are some other Westerns you have read? I have read books by Louis L'Amour, Zane Grey, William Johnstone, Ralph Compton and Ralph Cotton

I think I have read some of amours' stories - I am not 100% though - anyway, I good one as well is true grit by (something) portes (maybe - I can't remember the author) - it is about a girl that travels with a badass marshall to avenge her fathers death - I liked it

I absolutely love the Sergio Leone westerns but i havent read them. I'm not sure if the same magic of a western movie can be captured in a novel.

Try Cormac McCarthy. He'll blow your little mind wide open. Best. Westerns. Ever. Start with All the Pretty Horses.

Westerns?!?  WESTERNS.  The west is bad.  I prefer to read about the exciting and just lives of communistic citizens in such great tales as "A Day in the Life of Ivan Solinivitch" - the pages practically brim over with excitement.

In the general sense of movies yes, but the basic attraction of westerns for me are visual and audio experiences.. Sweeping camera angles and original scores. Extreme zoom up on character's faces and great one liners said in an authoritative voice.

I just don't know if the written word can convey the emotions i feel when watching a Western.
