"Dude! No one likes high school! And if you like high school, you're apart of the problem!" - Jeff Gerstmann

Now that I'm out of High School and starting Junior College soon, I was reflecting on which was worst: Middle School or High School.

Which one was worst for you? Middle School or High School? What made it really sour for you? Was it neither?

BONUS QUESTION: If you could go back in time and tell your Middle School or High School self one piece of advice, what would it be?

I enjoyed both a lot. So care free just good times getting in trouble and messing around. I'd probably tell myself not to be such a wuss around girls and just ask them out.also I didn't start driving till after I graduated I woulda told myself to just get my license.

Middle school was worse because I was still being bullied (I was a computer/science geek, it wasn't a 'cool' thing in the 80's.) By high school I had started punching back and even starting the fights myself, so by the second year of high school people had stopped fucking with me for the most part.

Don't marry that psycho bitch just because she's good in bed.

@br0kenrabbit: So basically you just told your teenager self that the psycho bitch was good in bed; now we know why he married her =P

On topic: Middle School was definitely worse because of bullying. In High School I was actually one of the cool guys with all the chicks...they were all just friends but nobody seemed to believe me =P

As for what I would tell myself if I could go back...Probably "Don't stress the small stuff and just enjoy yourself. Also, don't choose that career!!"

Just because I hit that doesn't mean I have to marry it. That's what I'm getting at.

Oh yeah, divorced in 2002 after 5 years. I'm 3 years into a relationship now with a fine lady. She has her own house on the same street I live, and we like it this way. I have my place, she has hers, we aren't up in each others ass 24/7 but we can be at each others door in just a few minutes. It's really working out well.

Thanks.

But I'm not always nice. If I don't like someone, I make no secret about it. But I'm also not a person who dislikes someone for no reason. And yeah I can be a total dick if I don't like you.

I just really, really, really dislike some people and I'm not bashful about being intimidating about it. I think it might have to do with how I was bullied when I was more passive, I dunno. I just tend to avoid those situations these days but sometimes people I trust turn out to prove me wrong about doing so.

Middle school was better. I had recently moved to the city so as opposed to others I was a total stranger. After a while I made a good friend and things were ok for a couple of years until his family had to move. Then for the final year of middle school and all through high-school I basically had no real friends and just hung out with a couple of other guys I didn't even like really so as to not stand out as a "loner". Unnecessary attention was the the last thing I wanted. So yeah high-school was worse. Overall it was a pretty boring and kinda sad experience which contributed to me being a little socially awkward now at 21.

If I could go back in time I'd tell my middle school self to man up and talk to that girl I liked and who actually liked me back. It was in the first few days when I was still a nobody and she would make eye contact a lot. Once she was with her group of friends 2 meters away from me and I could hear them say "go talk to him" and due to my shyness I was frozen still. Never made a move. :(

To my high-school self I'd say to not give up on making friends because I had a couple of chances but didn't pursue them because I had come to terms with being forever alone.

But I enjoy being a dick to certain people. Like, I really enjoy being a dick to certain people. It strokes my inner boner. It's not healthy but I can't help it.

It's what they call Junior High these days. They changed it here right after I hit high school. There's apparently a different approach to something or something I'm not sure, can't remember. Wasn't important to me.

Edit: I looked it up:

Junior High

  1. Subject-centered
  2. Emphasis is on cognitive development
  3. Organizes teachers in subject-based departments
  4. Traditional instruction dominates
  5. Six to eight class periods per day
  6. Provides academic classes
  7. Offers study hall and/or homeroom
  8. Classrooms arranged randomly or by subject or grade level

Middle School

  1. Student-oriented
  2. Emphasis is on both cognitive and affective development
  3. Organizes teachers and students in interdisciplinary teams
  4. Experiential approaches to instruction
  5. Allows for block and flexible scheduling
  6. Provides exploratory, academic, and nonacademic classes
  7. Offers advisor/advisee, teacher/student opportunities
  8. Team classrooms in close proximity

I didn't attend a "middle school"....went to Catholic school all of my life, so same building K-8. I never minded grade school...except for the occasional bullying. High school wasn't too bad either, but I never really "fit in" there, so I'd probably have to go with it as being the worst. I just wanted to be over with it and get out.

I loved high school because I finally came out of my shell and made a lot of friends and did plenty of partying. I hated middle school though.

High school. It had more bullying there than middle school. There was also too many drugs and underage drinking there.

Middle school was a terrible experience. High school all the way! Wish I could redo all 4 years of High School and joined the sports teams so I could finally get some respec because it's not about being smart or gifted, it's about being good looking and athletically talented.

Now that I've ben out of high school for 6 years (can't believe it's been that long) I've realized how fleeting and unimportant it is. Nothing that you do in K-12 means anything and it's spreading to college as well. It doesn't matter what you know, it's who you know. Get to know and make as many friends as possible; target the wealthy ones because their parents obviously have money and you could probably land a high paying job just becuase your a rich kid's friend.

Middle school was far worse for me because I was bullied constantly. I started getting into fights in my last year of middle school, and freshman year of high school, and the bullies never messed with me again. If I could go back and give Middle School Me a piece of advice, it would be to start doing BJJ and kickboxing in 6th grade, and start punching people then, instead of waiting until 8th-9th grades. Fighting was the best decision I ever made back then.

I liked middle-school a lot. I was with my childhood friends, and popularity derived a lot from being good at sports, and I was the shit, relative my year. In High school I was placed in advanced classes with the socially crippled and fat chicks, while my friends were happily frolicking with the degenerates of the lower tier levels. also I was, as I am now, a massive overachiever- and my stress levels for HS level final exams were, understatedly , inappropriate

Middle school. I was one of the youngest kids in my graduating class and hit my growth spurt after everyone else in middle school, which made me a target for bullies. I was a wrestler, so by the time I caught up to everyone else in physical stature, I wasn't messed with any longer.

Second half of my junior year and most of my senior year was a lot of fun. It was probably the least stressful period of my life.
