As video gaming is a medium that nerds and geeks flock to, it is logical to assume that there are nerds and geeks among us. So, I beg the question: Are you a nerd or a geek?

Before you answer, let me define both terms.

1. A nerd is interested in academia, such as mathematics and science. Subsequently, they enjoy entertainment that is related to these subjects, such as strategy games and shows like Star Trek. Nerds also tend to dress conservatively, preferring button-up shirts, slacks and shoes. In regard to careers, they tend to go into STEM fields, such as engineering and computer science. Nerds also tend to be introverted and poor at socializing.

2. A geek is someone who is highly interested in one particular subject, to the point that they're extremely knowledgeable in it (think of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons). They tend to dress in clothing that reflects their interest, such as shirts and hats with graphic designs. Their career choices are also influenced by their interest, which is why a comic book enthusiast would become an illustrator, or a fan of Anime would become a voice actor with the intention of dubbing Animes into their language. As for socializing, geeks tend to be extroverted though they tend to bore or irritate those they socialize with by constantly talking about their particular interest.

So, posters of OT, which are you?

Out of those two options I'd say I'm a nerd, but I don't consider myself poor at socializing.

More nerd, as I've always been heavily interested in the sciences (all of them) and I do like Star Trek, though I don't go to conventions or have conversations about it or anything. However, I'm not that introverted and I socialize well. I also bust ass on my parents horse farm and around my yard so my usual dress is boots, jeans and sometimes a T-shirt...sometimes minus the T-shirt.

Definitely a nerd, though I studied to be an embalmer/funeral director. My seizures have made me shy almost out of necessity.

Well, let's see what I am.

1. I am heavily interested in video gaming and comic book movies (though not comic books themselves, though I've read a few). I don't like academia much and am not smart enough to work in an academic field; I withdrew from uni.

2. I do not dress conservatively, but do have some things with graphic designs from fiction that I like. I have a t-shirt, a wallet and a bag with the FOXHOUND logo on each of them, and a Dr. Manhattan mask.

3. As far as work, I don't do these things for a living, but I do make videos for my two YouTube channels; one channel is for gameplay footage and another is for science fiction and fantasy.

4. I'm socially anxious and subsequently poor at socializing; I prefer to be alone.

I guess I'm a geek overall, though not an extreme one.

I came to the conclusion that there is a considerable portion of quite few things in me. Basically, I cannot define my existence through any stereotype or class and yet you will find yourself constantly associating me with many variations of them if you spend enough time with me.

Neither. I'm very interested in academia. I laugh at Star Trek and Star wars though. I have a GF and love sports. You need to stop watching TBBT.

I don't watch The Big Bang Theory. I actually had to search for the meaning of the acronym, TBBT.

I'm of the opinion you should stop shoehorning people into arbitrary definitions for meaningless terms

You must assimilate. As of now, I declare you a geek by default.

I have elements of both but don't fully fit the stereotypes.

As far as "nerd" elements go, I enjoy learning of some sciences such as physics and astronomy as well as a little bit of biology and love science fiction, I also love video games, mainly RTS games and I like watching shows like Game of thrones. My career is Computer science as well, but I don't dress too conservatively. I don't wear button-up shirts and don't go around in slacks. My default is t-shirt, jeans, and adidas samba shoes. Whilst I am introverted, I still have social skills and pretty much get along well whenever I'm forced to socialize or desire to do so.

For "geek" traits, I am highly interested in ancient and classical history and and extremely knowledgeable in that branch as far as a hobby. However neither my clothe nor my career reflect that subject I am so passionate about. I also don't constantly talk about the subject because I know it's not of popular interest but I do bring it up sometimes to point something out or speak of an interesting event. I also go to the gym regularly and have a varied amount of hobbies.

Certain traits of mine can fit either but not entirely I think.

Based on TC's definitions, neither. However, I lean more toward nerd than geek.
