Lately I have been wondering what will be the next new big thing. Mainstream music kinda has a 80s revival thing going on now. Heavy metal is still heavy. I would say rock music in general is so wide and diverse now its insane. I hope for something really originial and something I have never heard of before.

Music usually gets really bubble-gummy before it changes, and it's really bubble-gum right now. So hopefully something happens soon.

The drums/3 guitars setup is tired and reached its full artistic expression in the 70's, it's time for something new.

Based on the progress we've made this past decade as compared to previous ones, I'm assuming it won't go very far.

In 30 years, there will be no music, because none of it is any good.

Well with synthesising being all the rage now and with rock still getting some following maybe we'll get some electric and synth guitar use but not in a traditional rock style. Perhaps a blend between urban genres and rock with a bit of techno to hold it together, think Pendulum but slowed down and with Lady Gaga on vocals. Perhaps with a bit of a dirty industrial feel when everyone gets bored of clean artificial sounds.

Nope, I think it's gonna stay at 3 for a really long time. I think Streetlight is trying to start 4th wave (they have a song called riding the 4th wave) but it's just not happening.

IMO when 4th wave does come it's going to be a lot more produced sounding then most ska albums.
