Is it just me or has rap completely lost its way?
The stuff from the mid to late 90's was some of the best music I've ever heard.  But imo it's been in decline for years.
A couple guys at work are always telling me:  "Get this song, get that one..." Then I get those songs and find myself totally unimpressed every time.
Most of it sounds the same: just a tick tick with a generic beat and some guy mumbling about how gangsta he is.  What the hell?  Where's the emotion?  This s**t can't be real because I'm not feeling it at all.
There's no rawness anymore.  It all just seems so fake and repetative.
I'm dieing to hear something real.
I hope the entire music industry goes broke.  If this is what it's come to, it's definately time to start over.  Maybe someone with some unique ideas will actually be heard.

There's something wrong in that they all suck...gone are the days of Run DMC etc. Hello 50 Cent and how he's always on about guns, violence, and the hood.

The real talent for hip-hop nowadays is underground... there is still some talent in the mainstream though... 8)

I'm sticking to the old school...Wu Tang Clan, Redman, NWA, anything from the late 90's back.

LL Cool J is one of the best around, becuase he captures emotions in his music, I actually care about what he says and find myself listening in to what he is saying.

French rap is alright. Today's American rap is crap though. Too many monotones and rap about sex, violence and drugs. However there are some exceptions but overall, i see rap as crap.

Mainstream rap, IMO, is failing right now. its just songs about "I'm so gangsta", or "this is the cool new dance" or stupid crap like that.

that's why i'm sticking to underground rap right now

That's just a majority of the mainstream. Dig a little deeper to find the gold.

Have you heard "Game Theory" by The Roots? That's a really great album. One of their very best, and it came out in 2006. I don't really listn to any mainstream hip-hop.
