Some asshole bitchface bitch that hates life and everyone works in our apartment front office, she claims the groundskeepers got lunged at by a pit bull and so when she found out my neighbor had a pit bull (not the same pit bull mind you) she ordered that my neighbors get rid of it in three days (not long enough to find it a proper new home), she said the dog violated their pet policies (which was a lie), and if they didn't she threatened to call animal control, where it'd go to the pound and get put down immediately. My neighbors were devastated, their dog is the sweetest thing in the world, loves everybody, isn't aggressive in the slightest, they love it, and treat it like their baby.
So I knew of a little something that can let them keep their dog, something I learned while reading the news. I did a little online legal research, I drafted a letter on my neighbors behalf which they signed once they read it and gave to the front office, which stated that the animal is an emotional support animal, which by Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which in 1988 came to include disabled people), the dog by the HFAct rules is a necessary animal for mentally disabled people that the apartment would have to make a reasonable accommodation for, in order that she may use and enjoy her place of dwelling, and not doing so would be a violation of her constitutionally protected civil rights as a member of a protected class. Now the apartment front office can't get rid of her dog. An ESA is not considered a pet legally.
Granted I felt my neighbor qualified, I wouldn't just outright lie like that. She's in the process of a divorce from a physically abusive husband that use to beat her for years, her boyfriends mother just died, she works two stressful jobs, she hates being home alone and gets depression and/or anxiety and won't go out, feels uneasy, can't relax, can't sleep at night; it's obvious that her mental disability limits her major life functions. Her having that dog has been the best thing for her. She still needs to get a doctor to sign off on it, I know of a few who might be willing, so that's the next step, but in the meantime at least the front office hasn't got the dog euthanized.
And I'd really like to keep this neighbor, she's really cool, clean, respects everyone. Her boyfriend is great. There's too many section 8 ghetto trash moving in and that's the last thing I need moving in if those people move out. Plus I love animals, and hate the apartment management. And I've too much free time. I was very motivated to help.
