What would you have said?

Hi. This morning two jova witness came knocking at my door. When I opened the door they said there Jehovah's Witnesses and handed me a leaflet and asked. How do you view the future? Will our World. Stay the same, Get worse, Get better?. I paused and said I don't want to say. I no what I think is going to happen but didn't say because last time I talked about god politics etc I nearly got chucked out of a moving car because they didn't like the answer I gave. But I also noticed something about the leaflet is that on the front its got a Chinese or Korean girl on it. But what would you have said?.

"Sorry, I'm extremely busy right now". And bid them farewell.

Once 2 of those stopped me on the street and asked me about my view on something. The answer I gave them was kinda, that you dont need to be religious to be a good person. They missunderstood me and told me that I look like a great religious young fella...

"Sorry, but I'm not interested. Thank you for your time". In those situations, I think the polite thing to do is to cut them off from the beginning and save everyone's time instead of letting them waste their breath and effort. Chances are that if I want to buy something there's a store I can go to or a website I can visit and don't need to buy it at m doorstep.

I just said I'm atheist (which is true).

He then said maybe I could read it over a coffee or something, and I just said "yeah...".

And on their way they went.

I then chucked the leaflet in the bin, and that was that.

In all seriousness, though, I would have simply told them "No thank you, I'm not interested."

Well, it does have a nice lavender smell...

It's probably just the bags though.

@Celldrax: Here you don't get to choose what kind of trash bags you use but I always put a bit of fabric softener on a paper napkin and throw it in the trash when I put in a new bag. Funnily enough, it's also lavender =)

@Storm_Marine: He did? Does that mean he actually opened a door? I thought he was a shut-in who hated people.

A few years back when I was working weekends, my mid-week was open and I stayed home to watch the 3 year old daughter.....2 of these guys come to my front door.

They introduced themselves and tried handing me something and went on about god and what my views were and so on. I politely said to them, "Sorry, you've got the wrong guy here. You two are barking up the wrong tree and I'm not interested. I'm not into the religious stuff and I hope you guys have a good day."

I stepped back into my house (I was previously standing in the doorway) and went to start closing the door and one of them stepped towards me and kept saying things along the line of how I should look to god and come to their church and such.....he reached into the doorway trying to hand me his pamphlet. Two things here really pissed me off: 1 - I'm home with my daughter and I don't know these guys and one of them is reaching into my house, who knows what else he may do. 2 - I don't like people that push their religion on me, especially after I expressed my disdain towards his initial spiel.

I shot a nasty glare at him and he just smiled back (the 2nd guy was already backing up and moving away) and I told him, "I was polite and bid you farewell already and now you're still pushing your shit on me. Get the **** off my doorstep before I put my foot in your ass!".

The horrified look on his face was priceless. He quickly spun on his heels and jogged off.

Personally, I don't care what people do with their religious beliefs. You can follow what you want, just don't push your beliefs on me or others around you.

@neatfeatguy: Yeah, door to door people can get pushy or violent in a heartbeat.

I remember one situation when I was 10yo and was home alone with my 4yo niece and a guy kept ringing the doorbell trying to sell upgrades to a vacuum cleaner we had bought at a nearby store a few months before. Since I wouldn't open he started yelling "I know there's somebody home, I can see that the lights are on!". With all the shouting and the ringing my niece couldn't sleep so I opened the door and said "Can you please go away? My parents aren't home, I'm not interested in what you're selling and there's a little girl trying to sleep here" and proceeded to start and shut the door.

The guy went ballistic, kicked the door out of my hand and started screaming that he had been rejected the entire day and he would be damned if he would let a "fucking brat" close the door in his face. I told him, very calmly, that if he stepped a foot inside my house he would be leaving by ambulance. Apparently I looked just crazy enough for him to believe me, so he turned around and started going down the stairs. I turned the lights off halfway through and he actually fell down the stairs (unfortunately there were only 5 or 6 steps left and he wasn't hurt)...I didn't mean for that to happen but I can't say I was displeased. Never heard from him or that store again...

that happened to me a few years ago. at like 8:30am on memorial day when i wanted to sleep in a bit these two people came to my door. i was annoyed they woke me up trying to tell me that the world is a horrible place. i told them it has only gotten better and better and we have people, not god, to thank for that. when they told me jesus would come back to earth and judge humanity i asked if that would mean he would show up and start murdering people. they said he would only murder the wicked. at that point i told them to have a nice day and went back to sleep.

@comp_atkins: I would have probably told them "The world is definitely getting worse. People can't even sleep without being disturbed anymore" =P

@comp_atkins: I have neanderthal mornings too where someone wakes me up (worse if it's the doorbell or the phone) and all I can do is to hold back my impulses to throw stuff at them =P

"Sorry I'm not religious, but thank you." that's always my go to response.

I tell them I'm an atheist and they aren't changing my mind. They usually don't engage non-believers.

Probably something polite and end the conversation as quickly as possible.

Although, I'd rather be capable of starting a sarcastically complex conversation regarding their fates at the hands of Odin, and how they felt about their continued denial of Thor's Might and what they think Hel might be like.

I feel bad for them. Having to go door to door like salesman and knowing that most people cant stand them.

Interesting, I had Jehova Witnesses come to my door handing out sheets on a Sunday, I think last year, maybe Summer. The paper involved a religious play being held somewhere nearby.

Meh, I knew I wouldn't make it to see it. Might have been a snooze fest anyway.

If they asked me that question though, I'd probably just say "Oh, I'm not really sure." Although I do admit sometimes I come across perks in this world, sadly, it pains me to say it, but it still looks like this planet slowly but surely is only getting worse...

Open the door in a devil costume and smile. They will leave.

Less it's the police, fire department, or someone I know I'd just walk away from the door and go listen to some more music. Of course I live in the country so.

I just giggle and close the door. Have 0 tolerance for people who go door to door selling crap.

I have no idea who told these people that going from door to door peddling faith is a sound conversion strategy. We have a version of what is called Jehovah witnesses in Christian countries. They call themselves "Da'awa" which literally translates to preaching. Whenever they would stop me in the street to preach and tell me about the world to come I turn them down from the onset and be on my way, bearing in mind that I'm a practicing Muslim so that's saying something.

No one likes a peddler.
