I've been getting very lax this holiday, going to bed after 4am. Inevitably, I usually get up at 12.30(am or pm? I always get these wrong when it comes to 12 o'clock) which in turn messes up my breakfast and lunch times lol.

Now that my relaxation days are over, I'm aiming to become a morning person again. Go to bed at 2am max so as to wake up at 10-10.30am.

You?

@johnd13: Normally don't fall asleep before 4am. Even if I go to bed early that just means more time reading in bed. Need to find a way to change that habit though, because getting up at 8 (sometimes 7) to start working makes me feel really tired halfway through the day (even though by the time I have dinner I feel perfectly fine, so end up staying up until 4 again).

Also, 12pm is noon, 12am is midnight. It can be confusing, especially if you, like me, only uses am and pm to make it easier for our American friends =)

@korvus: That's sometimes the case for me when I have to get up early(like 8 in the morning) but ended up awake most of the night. At first while on the bus and at class, I feel like I might sleep standing but after a bit of cold air and activities, I usually get back on my feet and stay up till late again.

Thanks, I'll have to remember this lol.

I have a five/six hours sleep plan. (which I'm hoping to reduce even more). I sleep one hour in the afternoon from 4 to 5 pm or 5 to 6 pm (depending on the day) and at night I go to sleep at 12 or 1 am and wake up at 5 or 6 am.

It depends if I'm working on that day or if I'm on-call at work. On my days off, I usually go to bed like 11:00pm and wake up like 6:00am. I'm a morning person and my baby mama likes to be in bed all day till like 12:00pm when she's not at work. Which is good cause I can go downstairs to my Man Cave and play games all day :-)

@johnd13: It kind of sucks during the day but then in the evenings I start thinking there is so much I could be doing, don't want to go to bed. I can only imagine if I was a caffeine consumer...I'd never sleep!

Afternoon naps are always nice when I feel tired. Usually I like reading a book and if sleep kicks in, I just give in for half an hour.

I know, I just don't like this habit. My routine doesn't allow me much sleep either. So I have to convince myself one way or the other that it's bad and I should refrain from it.

Often don't sleep before 2 or 3 in the morning.

I work nights and have done so for the last 5 years or so. I finish work at 6.am and I am in bed and asleep from 8am till 2pm. Gives me a nice long afternoon and evening ready to start work again at 9pm. Its not something I intend to keep doing as long term its quite damaging to ones health. Having worked with a huge number of people also working nights it doesnt seem particularly good for maintaining a long term relationship and normal family life so I should transfer to days sooner rather than later.

Health is more important than 33.3% more money after all.

I don't know what's wrong with me these days. About a year ago I was suffering from prolonged insomnia that started about two years before that. I'd pull an all-nighter day after day without relenting, sleeping around 7-8 AM and waking up some time around 1 PM. A few months ago it started to improve and I started to find myself in bed around 1 AM and up and about around 9 AM. Then I started waking up as early as 7 AM. Lately however, Ive been waking up around 6 AM and by the time its 7-8 PM I find myself struggling to stay awake. Its very hard to explain but I get an acute urge to go to sleep that is absolutely unstoppable and so sudden which is why its so perplexing. Its like I crash momentarily rather than gradually across the day. Sometimes I'd sleep this early only to wake up next day but sometimes I'd wake up at some point in the middle of the night and stay up for several hours before going back to sleep again. The other day I just stayed up and concatenated night with the next day.

This latest development in my sleeping pattern is really vexing me. I don't get to do some of the things I'd rather do and it substantially curtailing my personal time. Most importantly however is the fact that I'm malcontent with how much time I sleep; I'd really like to reduce that to something like 6 hours 7 hours max.

That used to happen to me as well. I employed two solutions. The first one is afternoon sleep and the other one is simply fighting the sleepiness. But even if you take an afternoon nap you might still feel exhausted by 8 pm. But endure it for a quarter of an hour and after that you'll feel energetic again.

Last night around 10 PM I said to myself: "I'll just doze off for a couple of hours and then wake up again to resume my day". That didn't go too well. I did wake up at 1 AM but power access hadn't been restored yet so I had little incentive to stay up anyway. That's actually a contributing factor of why I haven't been staying up much late at night: lack of power access. For instance, the only reason why I decided to doze off last night was because of the fact that I didn't have power access and my laptop's battery was completely drained. Its very hard to stay awake when its pitch black and there isn't much to do. On the other hand, my tablet's battery had enough to sustain a couple of hours of reading so again I could've stayed up.

Anyway I'm really decided on doing something about this as it has persisted for long enough. I totally agree with the effectiveness of napping. I used to nap in the past and I would stay up quite late with a decent level of productivity too because of having taken a nap earlier in the day, no matter how short it might have been. I haven't been able to do that lately because of winter time change but it has gotten a little better now and i'm used to it anyway.

Depends if I'm working nights, days, or mids. This month I'm working days. So I'm usually in bed by 11-12, up at 7, at work by 8. If I'm working mids I stay up later, usually to 2 or 3AM and then I'm up at 10 or 11 and at work at 12. Nights I sleep from 7AM to 3 or 4 and at work by 9.

We have guys working different schedules to maintain a continuance of coverage.

I've been going to bed lately (probably for maybe two or three months now) at around 2:30 - 3:00 AM, EST, which is 11:30 PM to Midnight on the west coast. I get up around 11:30 AM to Noon EST.

This means I always enjoy getting even more than 8 hours of sleep, think my body prefers 9 hours. Not getting enough sleep is one of my pet peeves, if I get enough of a disturbance/too much disturbed sleep, I turn into a grouchy ole grizzly bear.

Maybe. I take a lot of different meds so I think that's what's keeping me up. Usually I just read and surf the net on my phone.

I get home from work around 1830. Go to bed around 2000-2030. Wake up around 0230-0300. Hit the gym around 0300-0330. Get breakfast, shower, drive to work, and get there around 0445-0500. It's a vicious cycle 6 days a week.
