There have been quite a lot of website redesigns recently and the two absolute worst for me are the AV Club and Gamespot but I think Gamespot takes the cake. I went onto the gamepage for "Beyond Two Souls" today and this is what I'm greeted with
Seriously? Before I simply went to a game page and was greeted with a ton of panels and information that I could see instantly. If I wanted to click on the review, it was in plain sight but I could also see lots of other options, it was incredibly user friendly. How ironic that the layout now *appears* more simple but actually makes everything so much more complicated so that I have to scroll down that long ass review to see options (such as user reviews) that would have been immediately visible before? I absolutely can not believe how badly this website has been butchered with the redesign, the shockingly poor quality of the interface just leaves me breathless. The AV Club is another website that has gone for a stripped design, a tabletization if you will that just makes it less functional. Oh and the technical issues are terrible, the website runs about 1/10th as well as it did on my browser.
It's kind of funny, these website redesigns remind me of the problems with newer releases of strategy games like Civilization V and Rome 2: Total War, stripping away features in the aim of making it more user friendly but actually making the games less enjoyable and ultimately less user friendly.
So what are your views on website redesigns? Good or Evil? What is the worst one you've ever seen and the best?
