Greetings everyone! I hope ya'll having a good day.

As the topic implies, what's the most valuable lesson your life taught you?

My life has taught me many lessons. The most valuable would be to always trust my instincts. To always look up to the best version of myself. Rockstars, movie stars, idols, historical figures - they don't mean anything. The 'best' that you can be already far surpasses them. I don't let my weaknesses drown me just because they are a part of me. I ignore them. Because I know I can be better than that. Our weaknesses are innate, working on trying to debug is as futile as its unnecessary. Look what you can do rather what you can't, that way you build yourself up on your weaknesses. Your weakness don't remain weaknesses anymore.

That's all for me. Post stories of how you learnt that lesson if you wish. Mine is a little too boring to share so I'll pass.

If I had to say a valuable lesson in life, one of them is stop living for everybody else, and live your life the way you want it too. Grow some thick skin, and pursue what makes you happy, we don't have much time.

Another thing-- the more you know, the more you don't know. There is always something new you can learn.

Don't waste energy trying to surpass anyone else; instead do your best to constantly surpass yourself.

Every example is a good example, there are just good examples of what to do and good examples of what not to do. Both are precious so pay attention.

Do your best to be kind to everyone regardless of how you feel about them, but don't let anyone walk over you.

The golden rule is a good rule.

Those are the most important ones that come to mind at the moment. I know you only asked for one, sorry. I think the first one kind of encompasses the others so I choose that one.

After watching several people die before experiencing life, or seeing the world, saving for retirement is no longer high on my list. Live for today, but not recklessly. If you are not happy, make a change, if you are happy, stay the course.

Always look someone in the eyes when you're talking to them. Stand up for yourself even if it means you'll take a punch to the face. From my experiences traveling, I truly believe that life is survival of the fittest. Some people get lucky, but if you want to make it to the top or wherever it is you want to go you need to fight.

Trying not to think too much about tomorrow, because you'll lose today... I used to spend a lot of time & energy thinking/worrying about the future, which became overwhelming to the point where it was effecting my life right now. Planning for the future is important, but don't let it ruin the present.

The most valuable lesson that life has thought me is that this place isn't a place to complain about what you don't have and rejoice in what you have. In other words this place is not a place where justice rules over all else.

Just look at the history of this world. There have been many great men and how many of them are "known" for their greatness? Many of the great people who lived in this world and then passed away apparently didn't accomplish any heroic tasks as we, the average men expected them to do. Many of them didn't conquer lands didn't revolutionize the world didn't bring about a new age YET they were great men. So what is greatness? Is greatness in what you have and what you don't have? Is greatness about what you accomplish in this world and what you fail to accomplish? No but true greatness lies elsewhere. True greatness is in another dimension. True greatness only rarely is "allowed" to have worldly aspects because it inherently belongs to another dimension. And because thisworld inherently is not a just world. In fact it’s the exact opposite. This place is inherently a place of injustice. This place is like coal. When you set fire to it, it will burn. The only hope for justice is to never set fire to this world. Of course it’s possible to alter events in order to bring “order” but not all are capable of altering events. One has to be “very capable” to be able to bring “order” to a world of chaos.

So it’s best to live a life of wisdom and knowledge, excessive hard work, extensive trials, tiresome tasks, careful planning and all those good things but to never expect them to “always” pay. And if they do then OK and if they don’t then OK.

Blame my cynicism.

@alim298: That bleak outlook of yours made me sad. I think the world is such a beautiful place =) Yeah, there's a lot ( A LOT) of bad things but there's so much beauty, so much happiness, so much to celebrate...I can't go out the door without seeing beauty and it makes me sad that not everybody can be as privileged as I am, whether it be due to the place they live in, or who surround them...I've been there too and I know how intellectually, mentally and spiritually suffocating that can be...

@alim298: That's a really interesting outlook. Many a times people mistake realism with cynicism. It's not cynicism. You're just laying out the truth in as simple a composition as possible. People think that you are being rude or just being a pessimist but the moment you acquire the ability to build yourself up on those cold harsh truths is the moment you truly set out on the journey of self discovery.

It all depends on the perspective, really. It isn't about the material commodities you have. It isn't about how smooth a life you can live with your loved ones. Trust me, living a life of struggle with the one you love is better than living a life of comfort. And I've seen people doing exactly that. Refugees from the war against terrorism, flood victims, Earthquake victims - so on. They all had everything, but they all lost it. And then it was only when they lost everything that they realized that they haven't lost themselves and what was actually 'everything' for them. To be around the ones you love, is the best blessing. But even then, alim's view comes into play. Just loving isn't enough. It rusts away. Somewhere along the line, you CAN mess up. Living a life of wisdom and knowledge is the best way. The median way.

Oh they aren't? A girl telling you she likes you and wants to get to know you better and do activities with you, after you're happy to hear that and you set up something with a group of friends and invite her a long with her brother she cancels without even letting you know? When you message her to find out what's up, she avoids the question completely and gives a half assed response "sorry for late response, didn't see message" and doesn't answer the question. After that you don't bother much, and when you see her around once a week you don't talk with her much and give her the space she needs and let her talk to whoever she wants. After a while you're so confused and get the feeling she's not interested so you ask her, and she begins to tell you "sorry but I'm not ready yet, and you felt a little too pushy"...... lmao. She's the one who asked me, and I gave her all the space she deserved and barely talked to her at all....yeah let me tell you, women are bloody cruel (not all of them) and nothing can change my mind on that, not yet anyways. I have a feeling they do it on purpose for the attention.

@korvus: Inspired by this wonderful poem:

Arrived the glad tidings that grief’s time shall not remain:

Like that remained not; like this shall not remain.

Although, I am, in the Beloved’s sight become dusty and despicable;

Honored like this, the watcher shall not remain.

Since the veil-holder striketh all with the sword,

Dweller of the sacred territory, a person shall not remain.

Of the picture, good or bad, is what room for thanks or for lament

When, on the page of existence, the writing shall not remain?

The song of Jamshid’s assembly, they have said, was this:

“Bring the cup of wine; for Jam shall not remain.”

O candle! Reckon union with the moth a great gain;

For till dawn, this commerce shall not remain.

O powerful one! Bring to thy hand the dervish’s heart:

For the treasure of gold, and the treasure of dirham shall not remain.

In gold, on this mansion of chrysolite, they have written:

“Save the goodness of people of liberality, aught shall not remain.”

Hafiz! Sever no desire for the Beloved’s favor:

For the picture of violence and the mark of tyranny shall not remain.

I was high and drunk from the time I woke up until the time I went to sleep for 5 years. Due to some serious repercussions I had to quit. I gained a new appreciation for life and I'm just happy to be alive. After all the stuff I did I just happy I'm not dead or in jail.

They're not cruel, they just aren't rational in the same way men are. Their emotions drive their behavior to a greater degree then men and this comes out in practically every aspect of their lives and their interactions. How they approach problems, how they argue, how they interact with their friends. If you are trying to apply logic to figure out her actions, just forget it, it doesn't work.

It's a generalization sure, but it's the same observation from just about every woman I've ever met, and the same story from every other man I've spoken to.

You're gonna die. I mean we all figure out the words when we're young but sometimes enough happens when you're still getting past your "I'm young, I'm superman, and ain't nothing gonna take me down!" that you understanding the true meaning to the words. Once you figure that out, things seem to fall into place in a manner that you can accept or fight, but least you know now the worry is out of your hands.

Wait wait, a girl tells you all that and you just invite her to an outing with a group of friends and even included her brother? Far be it from me to tell you how to handle women but you gotta be more aggressive bro. It's like a dance she's looking at you to lead. If you are decisive she will be too.

You can't even trust family.
