I'm sure a big enough asteroid would f*ck us all up. It's possible a few million people could survive a nuclear war, but there is no weapon made my humans that is more destructive than the asteroid. Damn nature, you scary.

We would probly **** shit up and kill ourselves before any asteroid or other catclysmic event would happen
we(humans) are our own worst enemy.

[QUOTE="indzman"]LOL, there's a Cracked article explaining how a zombie apocalypse would be ended quickly. I'm pretty sure that only applies for "natural" zombies, as in zombies that are caused by a virus or something. If we're talking about supernatural zombies, like it's a curse or demons or something that causes the zombie outbreak, then all bets are off.zombie virus outbreak

Thanks. I was too lazy to post the link to it.I don't think any of those would kill 100% of us, nuclear probably has the best shot at it though.
Time will certainly take us out (probably can't beat the expansion of the universe) or an unlucky galactic event could.
And the thing is about an asteroid, if we find it early enough we can "tow" it off its course by giving it a satellite.
Well probably die from either destroying each other or the earth, and if not that well probably get some lame ass natural event like some huge ass meteor seperating the sun.
And the thing is about an asteroid, if we find it early enough we can "tow" it off its course by giving it a satellite.
Inconsistancy
Yeah IF.
There was one not too long ago that flew by pretty close and we only got 3 days warning.
There was that comet a year or so back that was suppose to slam into the sun, but went around it and survivied (lol). If that had come barreling out at us it wouldn't have been pretty: the closer an object gets to the sun, the faster it has to go to escape it. So yeah, we'd have been slammed with little warning.
All of those depends on the magnitude of the event. A shortage of resources won't do it unless by "shortage" you mean "insufficient to feed a genetically stable population", and an asteroid's ability to kill all of us depends on its kinetic energy and location of impact. Similarly, nuclear weapons could do it if you had enough of them and a high enough yield per warhead or if they were very dirty bombs, and climate changes could also do it depending on the strength and hostility of it.

Yep, I think this too. Nuclear warfare sounds like the end.

Barbariser
I think most of our current arsenal (US) is the B61 (~350kt max) and the MK83 (~1.5kt).
What's more important than the yeild is altitude. A low-yield bomb will cause more long-term problems if detonated at ground level than a high-yield bomb will if detonated at ~3,500 FT +.
I still think the most effective way to utilize a nuke is via high-altitude detonation for the EMP effect.
My guess would be something space-related, be it an asteroid or a solar explosion(however distant such an event may seem) or sth unexpected and inevitable in general. All the other choices don' t guarantee absolute extermination of the human race as there are going to be some people smart enough(or rich) to save their a$$es.

Well...Betelgeuse has shrunk ~15% over the last decade. It's still far larger than our sun, though. Could pop any minute now.
Any minute now.

I could imagine, as friggin hot as that thing burns. It would be a hell of a Supernova! As for what I think, by our own hands. Logic tells me Nuclear warfare, chemical outbreak, or by our own AI as we progress with technology. (IE: Drones, etc)[QUOTE="indzman"]LOL, there's a Cracked article explaining how a zombie apocalypse would be ended quickly. Not if the zombie outbreak is a result of nanobots... Overpopulation and competition for the Earth's last resources which are becoming scarcer by the day.
As food prices will skyrocket eventually, thousands of people will die from starvation. I guess the poor will be hit the hardest from this because they will not have enough money to buy food so many poor people will die.
It would probably be like a shortage of fuel, food and water then a nuclear exchange for the resources
It'll probably be a bit like Fallout
Our primary risks:
Natural events:
- Supermassive Volcanic Eruptions - If yellowstone went up it would decimate the central US and darken the sky above the Eastern US, North Atlantic, and EU for years.
- Gas Vents - There is an abundance of methane beneath our planet's surface. Small amounts are released all the time. If a large release event occurred it could forever change the atmosphere of our planet.
- Continued deforestation and Global Warming, etc - The ice caps melting probably won't do much other than force an evacuation of coasts. But that coupled with our destruction of ozone protection, coupled with deforestation. A hundred years from now we could have much less landmass to work with, much less vegetation to produce oxygen, and what little will remain could be receiving harmful radiation from our reduced ozone. All of that could combine to make the planet uninhabitable for us anymore.
Massive Events we have no control over:
- Sun expansion or recession.
- Galaxy collisions.
- Rogue black holes flying around space between galaxies.
- Movement of other galactic bodies (stars, planets, asteroids), etc.
Sickness:
- A hundred years from now we will more than likely have wiped out a large amount of sickness in our society. A lethal unvaccinated strain of something could run rampant through our population and we could do nothing to stop it.
Our existance is fragile.
Not primary risks:
Nuclear War
