I'm trying to guage what the majority of film goers think for my own curiosity. If you don't like any of the selections write it instead.

The only time I actually was aware of the gender of the director of a film was when somebody told me the Hurt Locker was directed by a woman. Otherwise it's just a name.

I base a movie on its trailers and its predeccessors if its a sequel or something. not the Director.

Is it really a big deal if the director is female? Really?? That's like being amazed that, yes, there are, in fact, females who play video games.

Same here. It doesn't make me think any differently of a film.

Exactly. I don't care if the director has a vagina penis or something inbetween. If the movie's good, I'll watch it.

I might take note if they have something in between.

First thought was how much I adore Brit Marling. She's the future. Write that down.

Point Break and American Psycho.

I wonder what the hell happened to Mimi Leder, she could've been just as good as Bigelow.

All interesting answers. I wasn't thinking so much about quality of the films but that's certainly a factor. i was thinking more along the lines about if/how the same film being directed by a male director be different if directed by a female. The reason being, I have a theory that because about 90% of films are being made by males and that because only about 10% of films are directed by women then we as film gowers "aren't hearing both sides of the 'potential movie' story" if you will.

i don't really have any associations with a particular type of filmmaking for women. point break, lost in translation, twilight, and winter's bone are all really different movies and i don't doubt that there are even more diverse examples.

I have never heard of a female film director. I would be skeptical.

Wish there was more to get a proper perspective on how woman directors differ on average to males.

Akin  to how there are subtle differences in writers (woman on average tend to have a bigger focus on internal conflict & character interaction)

Unfortunately, woman directors are a micro minority in Hollywood.

I'm thinking of The Hurt Locker, and...uh...Strange Days? Oh, and now I thinking of what's her name, Coppola. Sophia Coppola. Did that film with Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansson's backs- hm, Lost in Translation? As for what kinds of movies women are likely to direct, my answer would be 'whatever guys would direct'.

I'm a little surprised.

I'm not a movie conniseour who like watches the stuff going on at the cannes festival, and the art house films.

just whatever gets sent to the cinema.

I mean sitting and thinking about what  female directors to begin with is hard enough, can only think of Bigelow that's it. Almost all the the directors of movies i've seen and/or liked have been by men.

I think of marie antoinette, lost in translation and helter skelter.

All of the above are interesting, but the pace of the movie is not my thing.

Tbh most of the time when I watch a movie I don't even know the director's name let alone their gender (like hell if I'm reading the credits :P).

There's barely any female directors anyways, so it doesn't cross my mind. I wouldn't think less of a movie because of the gender of the director though....as long as its not some romantic comedy garbage

For some reason I think of marshalling pennies. Not sure why though.
