Since the re-done of the web design here. I was wondering what people miss most about it,since I started posting here and interacting on the forums after the re-design.

It is unreasonably possible to have want the old site back the way it was,but what particular features would like to see re-appear on here.

And while we are on that, what NEW features that have either: never been done before.Or what other forum site have done.would you like to be made implicated here?

Leave your response and thanks for reading!

A couple key features:

a way to know if we have read a thread or not. the system they have now doesnt always work.

a way to go to the first unread post in a thread.

two very simple features, that many sites have. The old site had them. makes browsing and posting nice and easy. especialy since it takes long as hell to load a page.

but no, they decided they didnt need them for the redesign.

couple months later and still the same response "They are working on things as we speak"

ffs

@konvikt_17: I agree with you a lot over most of the things you brought up.

Now that you mention the system where it shows whether if you read a thread or not, I just noticed that and agree with you.

The pages do take a long time to load which has for sure turn me off wanting to browse other threads or discussions.

I also wish they let you comment twice without you haven't to refresh the page. I found that a major bummer for me and sometimes when I want to reply to someone,I don't for the very reason I mentioned.

The emoticons, the little symbols telling you that you already read/posted in a thread, and the fire symbol when a thread getting popular real fast. The Epic sigs.... and the gifs that would be in them. The report button. The user names being in different colors. Being able to type a post in different colors.

And most importantly.... THE LEVEL 10 RULE

I miss a lot of things, but the thing I miss the most is being able to go to my post history, click on the post and it take me not just to the thread, but right to my post so I can continue following the thread. Now The best I can do is click on the post and have it take to to the first page of the thread I made that post in and I have to hunt from there to find my post. Good luck with that on a huge thread if you don't remember which page your post was on. That is why I post in a thread and never return most of the time to continue the conversation. Just not worth the effort. Another thing I miss is having my Raptr tag as my sig, which is no longer an option thanks to the site downgrade. I also miss the level 10 rule. SW sucks so much ass now. None stop trolling and the mods do nothing whatsoever to stop it. It's as if the mods have given up on the site as much as the rest of us have.

EDIT: I also miss having the PC Gaming and PC Hardware forums separate. I don't even bother going to the PC forums anymore because they combined the two. It is nothing more than one big clusterfuck now and I will have no part of it.

Not having to go through a log in screen. Posting history indicators. Level system. Animated .gif sigs. Unions.

-

Most of the time I don't bother logging in, be it to post or lurk. I hate the extra step. Same reason I abandoned my gmail accounts.

The level 10 rules was simple. With the old design, we had levels. I made it to level 36 before the redesigned downgrade. Well the rule was, you weren't allowed to make a thread (you can post in threads, just not make them) until you had reached level 10. That helped keep the trolling down in SW a lot.

That sound good. I bet it stopped all of those people with like, 143 posts from making threads.

yep.... level ten would take an average of about 6 months to reach (the higher you go, the slow the leveling up system went).

The problem was that there would be too many alt-accounts (like a troll user would have like 3-4 accounts and be posting shit all the time). An you would also have newbies making threads all the time for dumb shit or about stuff we already knew about.

There are rumors that it may come back. IDK why they ever got rid of the level system, that thing was actually one of the good things the site had going for it. If you misbehaved, the mods you take points away (lowering your level).

So if you were a troll who was waiting to reach level ten to start trolling, your misbehavior would lower you back under a level ten.

Moderators use to strict back then, shit was crazy how strict the were. In the old Nazi days of GS, I would be moderated 4-5 times a week, lost post constantly. People would get suspended all the time for silly things. Everyweek some one would get banned and we would hold an Appreciation Funeral Thread (which would piss off the mods an anyone who posted in that thread would get modded). I would get a 7 day suspensions all the time, I got a month suspension twice. I even got banned from the site, I would try to ban-dodge but I would get caught a couple months into it. The longest one of my ban-dodging accounts went with out gettting caught was 9 months. They finally banned my IP address, I couldnt come to the forums for over a year and then a miracle happened... The New Terms of Used came in to place in December of 2010 (or 2011 I cant remember). For a small window of time they were letting banned users come back after an evaluation after submitting a request and thats how I was able to make this account.

Then the new site change came in and the mods have completly have backed off. Its wired how little you see the mods and people getting suspended and banned now a days. The Mods use to be like a military force dictatorship up in this bitch, now they are like your middle school hall monitors.

This is true. It was only in SW. Hopefully they bring back some sort of deterrent when/if the new level system goes online.

It's funny how many mods I see disobeying rules. The main offense, one word replies to quotes. I.E. "This". And here I thought this was a discussion forum.

The only thing I miss is the Legacy Platforms section of the site. I heard it's still here but it's pretty much dead now.

All the time. People would shit talk a mod, get suspended create a new account talking trash to the mod who suspended them, now for creating an account while being under a suspension they were automatically banned.

There used to be "account suicides" (something you never see today). Account suicide was when a user had enough of the mods bullshit or were one moderation away from being permanently banned, that the would make a thread about something pretty normal, but when you open it it would be a bunch of porn and death threat to mods.

We hated mods, there was a war on mods all the time. Their used to be alot more mods back then too.

Everything to them was "Disruptive posting". You were in a thread were everybody in the thread liked Chocolate Milk, but you said "I dont like Chocolate Milk, i think it sucks" = DISRUPTIVE POSTING, 3 day suspension. Having an unpopular opinion was one of the most common reasons to be moderated here.

You quoted a big post (like you and I are doing now), DISRUPTIVE POSTING = reason the conversation was too long and you commented on it making it longer.

Posting one word comments (Ok, What?, so?, no, yes, etc.) or posting "Cool Story bro", DISRUPTIVE POSTING!!!!!!!!

Mods hated their job, and they would take their frustration out on people cuz people hated them.

I miss the people, people have obviously fled because GameSpot not properly testing the new site before it was forced on everyone, and not addressing horrible problems in a timely fashion.

Yes it was just for SW, which is where 90% of the trolling was done.

@lamprey263: I think GameSpot should a have a Beta for the website to test out all the little bugs and glitches before putting the website in full effect. Then maybe everyone wouldn't leave at once like you said.

Nearly everything. This forum really went to hell after the change. (In my opinion, of course)

The Epic sigs.... and the gifs that would be in them. The report button. The user names being in different colors. Being able to type a post in different colors.

And most importantly.... THE LEVEL 10 RULE

What's the level 10 rule?

Were there uprisings against the mods?

Damn son, that would've been scary.

Oh and back then, you couldnt use curse words. You couldnt even say "god damn" = 7 day suspension

@lamprey263: I think GameSpot should a have a Beta for the website to test out all the little bugs and glitches before putting the website in full effect. Then maybe everyone wouldn't leave at once like you said.

believe it or not... GS used to have way more bugs and the site would crash all the time, the forums would always be down. We used to call it Clitchspot cuz shit was broken all the time. It was terribad durring 2012.

To be honest, the new site is alot more stable but its probably cuz it has alot less features.

This box thing were you type you post, use to gltich out all the time and would filter out random words like "style" and "classic". It wouldnt let you post in you had those words in your post comment. No one ever knew why... We would have to put spaces or a period into the word for it to go through.

I miss how when you wrote a review you could give a game a point 5 rating within a rating, because you know, some games are close to the next rating but aren't quite there. I also miss how when you were looking at one game the old site would show you recommendations (i.e. games you may like) it was an easy way to get around and find games that you had never heard of before.

I also miss the way the old site looked. call me a big baby but I actually shed a few tears when I first saw how the new site looked and how it was set up. I also think the old site had a better reviews page.

it was better all around. Think what you will of all that, but that's my own personal opinion.

The old design felt lighter when browsing. Also I miss that I can not jump to my last read/first unread post in threads.

I liked how they marked a thread that was read and/or posted in. Plus I'd rather see the new posts on a thread I did post in than have to deal with the slow notifications page...which doesn't tell you what thread it was.

Also I miss going to the first new post and not having to back track from the last.

I liked the blog feed of friends.

I liked the old games list. I hate the new stacks. They suck.
