Well I selected white and gold, but as it is being posed as a question with more answers than the basic visually obvious one, I'd assume their is more to it than this?
At first I'd say white and golden, but considering the overexposure of the overall photo I could see blue and golden, but I definitely can't see blue and black XD

Well I can honestly only see blue and black. This is interesting.

O_o
Well that's interesting.
@bfa1509: I asked my wife without telling her about the options and she replied, without hesitation, blue and black. Then we went into Photoshop's RGB picker and I showed her which colours I see and she did the same. The interesting part is that when she chose the colours I saw blue and black and she saw in my choices whitish and golden. So why can we not see it in the photo?

Ok that is freaky. I have to give your wife a virtual high five for backing me up!
I can't believe White and Gold is winning. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!
Human sacrifices, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!
@bfa1509: High five given and returned =P I think since the colours are halfway between both and with your brain making the necessary adjustments (for example "the dress looks like it's in the shade from those bright white lights, so that explains the blue tint and it's probably white") it causes confusion in the brain.

Well sorry to dissappoint you but your wife and I can see the colors that the designer intended the dress to be - Blue and black!
the dress is technically black and blue
but deoending on backlighting and the fact that the brain is a prediction machine instead of actually "seeing what is", it compensates in different ways to make the world align in a certain fashion so it can get on with navigating it
its a bit of an optical illusion, in the sense that we warp in accordance with what is presented to us
now lets move on to africa and other more pressing issues before i kill myself
please
@BiancaDK: Yeah, because we so often find solutions to the world's problems in these forums.
Obama just called up the UN and was like "Holy shit guys, we need to call a meeting, the GS forums has this shit all figured out. Also, I found this awesome animated gif of Chuck Norris riding a T-Rex. Vladimir is going to ROFLMAOWPHP".
@bfa1509: Funnily enough, I just watched a video where they keep showing the dress without any colour correction (blue and black) and then I looked back at this photo and I could see the blue better and the golden a bit darker. Also, according to the video you can see the dress differently depending on the last things you've been looking at.

i actually lol'd irl reading that shit
thank you
I woke up hearing about this all over the place, and now it's reached OT. Almost makes me glad I gotta go back to work.
What's the story behind this dress thing ?
basically can be summarized to 1 word
women
Why the hell it's getting such traction i wonder...
Maybe we can't trust our pilots anymore?

Man it's riveting...
And now that we've established that most people's eye rods (mine included) are fucked up here's some optical illusions to keep everyone entertained.
okay i retract everything i have previously stated in this thread
the dress just changed colors for me
literally in front of my fucking eyes it went from a very light blue with gold to dark blue and black
you have to keep staring at it and keep telling yourself that it's not a light blue with gold trimming, and stick with it, and by god it changes eventually and it'll blow your mind

Or...
...people still don't know how to fucking calibrate their monitor!
So I found The Dress for sale here. It is clearly black and blue. But in the photo posted by TC I see white and gold.
But what gets even stranger, if you stare at the The Dress I posted for a good 30sec without moving your eyes, and then go back to the TC's pic it will change color!!! o_O (This trick only works if you originally saw white and gold in the TC pic)
@br0kenrabbit: Both my wife and I were looking at the same monitor =)
But who calibrated the monitor? Your calibration and her's aren't necessarily the same.
But I think there's an easy answer to this question: Ask a tetrachromatic. Fortunately, I happen to know one. I'll try to get a hold of her. lol
Last night when I saw it it was yellow and white, this morning it was black and blue. Now it's yellow and white again. So I strongly suspect sorcery involving the time of the day is involved.

I'm glad you have seen the light... I mean, the dark...
How are people seeing black?? If you open the image in Photoshop and check the colors, it's gold.
I know that the actual dress is blue and black, but that picture is clearly light blue and gold.
it's only blue and black yet my wife insists white and gold. maybe she's colorblind
does that mean people who see it as w/g see the sky as white during the day and gold during the night???
