Final Destination 3 rollercoaster

I'm a sucker for heroic or sappy death scenes, so I like the following (minor spoilers, but these movies are old enough I feel like if you snoozed you lose, yeah?):

  • Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame. "I *pause* am Iron Man *snap*". And then Tom had to come in sobbing all over Tony and ruin it! Ugh get out of there Tom.
  • The guy in the Mad Max reboot, I think he was a warboy. He sort of saw the light at last, fell in love with his very sudden and newfound family, and finally wanted to do good so he sacrificed himself not for Lord Scrotus, but for love and goodness and of his own volition. WITNESS ME!.
  • Spock in Star Trek II.
  • Bruce Willis in Sin City. "Old man dies, little girl lives...fair trade".
  • The Professional. Leon takes on an entire police department's worth of SWAT, only to be taken out by the corrupt and amazing Gary Oldman's character. At the end he pulls one final "ring trick".
  • Basically any soldier that died in Saving Private Ryan.
  • The grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine. I wouldn't say it's particularly heroic, nor do you really witness him dying, but he was the soul of that family and he did AMAZING things for that little girls self-esteem that her fucked up parents and brother could never do.
  • The whole scene in The Abyss where the woman VOLUNTEERS TO DROWN in freezing ice water miles beneath the surface, only to get slapped to life by Ed Harris. Fight! FIGGHT! FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHGHGHGHGHT! I mean I think I could sacrifice myself for something greater than myself if it was instant, but drowning? That'd take at least a minute and from what I hear it is not a fun experience from survivors, you'd have a long time dying and regretting that decision. OK I Can do this *glug* oh wow that burns *glug glug* ah crap what have I done, is this worth it? Yes? Yes *gasp gasp glug glug gasp* NO NO NO NOT WORTH IT OH GOD
  • Sally Field's character in Forrest Gump. What that mom did for that boy that eventually turned into that fine, simple, and glorious man was nothing short of saint-like. And that scene? So beautiful, I am so grateful she got to say goodbye to Forrest, and Forrest got to say goodbye to her.
  • Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. "He might have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy"

Mufasa’s death from The Lion King comes to mind. Sad for Simba to lose a dad at such a young age.

Maybe none of these are memorable by themselves, but together they're movie magic, behold, the Sean Bean death reel...

@lamprey263: Ha! I was going to say Boromeir from Fellowship of the Ring, but these all together is much better.

Anyway, hate all you want Snoke and Luke's deaths in The Last Jedi are some of the best in the franchise. Fight me!

Op already posted Sam Jackson from Deep Blue Sea. I remember the first time I saw that. Brilliant moments in B-movies is one of the things I love about movies.

Yeah, I love Deep Blue Sea that was such a huge shocker to see Samuel Jackson die in that. It made me LMAO Jackson is one of my favorite actors but seeing him die by a shark felt more comical then tragic.

Yeah, for sure. 100% surprise and shock value but it worked so well. Right at the end of his inspirational speech/survival confession was so perfect.

Dredd anyone? The (non-gratuitous) slow-mo and psychedelic effects create a death scene that makes a terrifying fall into something that looks ironically serene.
