I grew up listening to my mums Deep Purple vinyls as well as Iron Maiden vinyls I used to buy from the record store. I also listened to some chart music. But around 96 97 a lot of what was in the UK charts started sucking harder than usual. Dance music especially took a downwards turn. Instead of N-Trance & Corona we had Sash and Alice DJ, I mean WTF? So I started buying Metal Hammer. Initially I was dissapointed that they didn't cover Iron Maiden but then I got into some of the bands they covered. Fear Factory, Korn, Lacuna Coil, and Cradle of Filth where all down to Metal Hammer. Then after listening to waaay too much System of a Down and Marylin Manson I started to get major depression and began on a Celine Dion type music binge and recovered. Needless to say I'm a fighter, and if listening to Celine means fighting depression, then that's what it takes. Anyways I still listen to metal and rock from that era and I am no longer depressed, which is good. The stuff I've gone back to is mainly Sinch, A Perfect Circle, The Mars Volta, Lacuna Coil, and I don't think I will ever grow out of Fear Factory, they're too awesome.

What are some bands from 1995-2010 that you still enjoy listening to, and what are some bands that you used to like but feel that you have grown out of?

Nightwish (Tarja era) Evergrey Sabaton Circus Maximus Kamelot I don't think I've ever "grown out" of a band. Every band I've ever liked still sounds good to me. I grew up mostly listening to my dad's vinyl collection.

Megadeth has had some good albums in that time frame. United Abominations and Endgame kick so much ass.

If you like Iron Maiden, you'll like Helloween, Jag Panzer, Dio/Dio-era Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Demons and Wizards, and Symphony X.

If Fear Factory is your thing, try some Prong or Meshuggah. The industrial elements in both might be appealing. Be warned: you may find FF boring after a few rounds of "Future Breed Machine."

I've gotten heavily into doom metal recently, and have been recommending Solitude Aeturnus to anyone who's asked. Start with "Destiny Falls To Ruin."

Most of the metal artists in my last.fm library were formed in the 1990's or 2000's, so you can browse. http://www.last.fm/user/Zeviander/library

As far as bands that came out in that time period I still listen to, the main one would be Shinedown. Another that I might randomly listen to is Black Label Society, though I actually prefer Zakk Wylde's acoustic / solo stuff somewhat more. Even more recently I was introduced to "Black Veil Brides", which has a newer style sound with an older style look. One band that I used to listen to more is Disturbed, though I kinda just stopped.

Endgame isn't bad but that's only considering that it followed on from Cryptic Writings and Risk. I have to say Megadeth peaked with Rust in Peace though.

If you liked FF try Strapping Young Lad. They don't sound particularly similar but I can't see anyone liking one and not the other.
