God no. Slash was the only talented member of the band (besides Bucket head being in the band for half a minute).
I seem to like their "classics" less and less each year and just getting more and more confused as to how they obtained such a high status in the rock world...
Good but not great. I like their Lies album the most. Appetite for Destruction was pretty good. After Use your Illusion 1 and 2, they were dead to me.
After Use your Illusion 1 and 2, they were dead to me.
I like 'Estranged' from UYI, but the only other GnR song I like is Patience. Everything else is just too redneck rock.
Their success says that they were good enough so obviously a lot of people liked them, at least at one time or another. Everything else is opinion.
I liked Appetite when I was younger, but I ended up loving UYI I and II more as I got older. I love those two records the most from their heyday. I thought Chinese was a great progression from that, but I know I'm in the minority unless I start lurking various GN'R message boards. I thought Izzy was more important to the the band than Slash was.
Yeah I liked them. Appetite for Destruction is a great album and Use Your Illusion I and II were pretty solid as well. They're pretty low on the list of bands I enjoy though.
They were a nice break from the New Wave stuff that was popular at the time. I recall Bon Jovi was the first to break out followed by GnR. Then the other hair bands followed.
Wanted Dead or Alive - BJ
Paradise City - GnR
Made my stay in the Midwest a lot more bearable. I recall I had one or the other song above blaring on my car stereo while I was at a stoplight. . A couple of teens pulled up in their classic V8 and offered me a swig of their Jack Daniels. Ha Ha!
They was'nt that bad. There was a lot of other bands that were better.AC/DC,Metallica,Pantera,Ozzy,etc.....
The only GnR song I liked was Paradise City. It's the same for the other hair bands. Wanted Dead or alive is the only song I liked from BJ. But, there were enough hair bands to qualify as one-hit wonders to me.
Heck no. Slash seems to have cast a spell on everyone and for some reason people think he's an outstanding guitarist. The dude is a one-trick-pony and all of his solos are excruciatingly awful.
What do you think?
They were really overrated (I honestly dont know why people consider November Rain to be one of the greatest songs in the history of rock, let alone one of the best solos ever) but they had some OK songs, though I hate it when the most influential band members dont get the credit they deserve. The band was Izzy's and Izzy did most of the writing, but Axl was the pretty boy and Slash was the raggedy rocker stereotype, so of course they took all the fame.
Slash was the only really talented member of the band.
That said, one need not have talent to be successful in the music world.
