By a margin 285-144 the house pases a bill to raise the debt ceiling for three months in exchange for the Senate actually coming to terms on a budget, something that hasn't been done in close to four years. What do you think of this move? I'm actually happy that the republicans in the House have moved to not hold the credit of the the united states hostage in a fight about spending cuts.

I think it's worth the Senate passing this and getting a temporary reprieve, but this is only a way to allow the GOP to focus more on the sequester and other matters. I don't think is them backing away from a fight. It's just changing the battlefield a little bit so they can be annoying in other arenas down the road.

I think they'll argue that this is covered under the standard of living clause. They'll say that the nations standard of living will be jeopardized if the changes aren't approved. Either way the Senate should at least bring a budget to a up or down vote. There's no excuse to not at least do that much.

Isn't there a 28th amendment in the works too regarding something similar?

I think it fitting that Congress doesn't get paid if they cannot do the job that they are supposed to do. We haven't had an approved budget since Obama was elected. Why is that, especially when for at least the first two years his party had control of both houses in Congress (this is a rhetorical question that does not require an answer)? If they want to be paid, they need to get off their rear ends and start getting things that the people, not them, want done.

Well we don't really need a "budget" passed by the senate so its just a dumb waste of time. Probably so republicans can try getting more out of the debt ceiling.

According to the article the Senate is going to move on a budget, so it should be interesting what they come up with.

I approve.

As our country suffers, so should those that govern it.

They only did that because Obama has the upper hand lately and the GOP doesn't want to make itself look even more like a comic book villain.
