Good point. I would have thought Berlin should be there. And come on guys, the UN does some good... it's only as good as its members allow it to be anyway.

This. Seoul should be higher on that list. It seems more prosperous and technologically advanced than Athens or Barcelona or Budapest. Maybe it's just me.

Well Berlin is not in that good state. Probably better than Athens but anyway probably Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich etc are in much better states

And come on guys, the UN does some good...

Just one US city? :?

#18 Posted by Chevolutionary (23290 posts) -
Dublin, Barcelona, Milan, Lisbon and Athens are all in countries whose economies are completely boned. Good list.
#19 Posted by Stesilaus (3307 posts) -

Here's the list:

19. Warsaw

Aljosa23

That placing is courtesy of the Warsaw Pact, comrade. :P

#23 Posted by Storm_Marine (10790 posts) -

Typical UN bs list. Of course the UN would place preference on 'sustainablity' and 'social inclusion' instead of actual WEALTH.

ShadowMoses900

Admit it: You're crestfallen because Tel Aviv didn't make the list.

This. Seoul should be higher on that list. It seems more prosperous and technologically advanced than Athens or Barcelona or Budapest.

Seoul isn't even that rich on a per capita basis. Try Ulsan if you want a large South Korean city but with a high GDP per capita.

#26 Posted by Storm_Marine (10790 posts) -

Please change the topic title TC. This is a UN feel-good study. Not a serious list of prosperous and wealthy big cities.

#27 Posted by tenaka2 (17029 posts) -

lol dublin is number 7.

Why do all americans not like the UN? Is it because of the war crimes and the whole geneva convention stuff?

#28 Posted by Storm_Marine (10790 posts) -

Seriously TC, I insist, change the title. Even 'best' cities would be better, as that at least implies subjectivity is involved.

That's the name of the report though.

though i kinda want to keep it the same out of spite

No Luxembourg? They should be first.

UN is a made up of idiots and doesn't have much credibility anyways.

The title isn't the problem, the majority of the posters is simply too lazy to read the first page of the document. This UN document isn't solely about the financial situation, which some people seem to think.

Prosperity tends to refer to financials situations.

Luxembourg City is a city within the country, and far more affluent than anything on that list as well.

#37 Posted by Storm_Marine (10790 posts) -

I swear they took a bunch of European cities + a couple token Asian and North American examples and threw them into a hat, drew them, and called it a 'report'.

They have the second highest GDP per capita in the world.

Okay. The actual report mentions a lot of different categories to how they came to their conclusion so I don't think it's as simple as a few here think.

Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that this list is based on more indicators then just the financial situation.

A bunch of stuff that has no business being in a report on prosperity.

I've been to Vienna and Luxembourg is far more prosperous economically per capita. It's also reflected visually.

And heck, even within Canada there are more deserving examples than Toronto, like Calgary. No matter what field you're in you're pretty much always going to make more money in Calgary than you are in Toronto. You can argue that Toronto is nicer, or more cosmopolitan, or is more exciting. But the fact remains, your economic prospects are better in Calgary.
