So saw earlier Musk was limiting Tweets users can view from 6000 for verified users, and 600 for non-verified users. I think many initially speculated Musk was trying to strong arm people into signing up for Twitter's paid tier. I just thought this was utterly dumb because obviously it's going to tank ad revenues.

Seems though the real reason this is probably happens reflects his practices since he took over the company. He isn't paying his bills. Recently, it's his Google cloud services he's failed to pay and services are being cut off.

https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-twitter-stopped-paying-google-cloud-bills-money-platformer-2023-6

I have no idea why this guy hasn't been sued into the ground from not paying severences, his various offices leases, bills for external services, all kinds of unpaid contract work, salaries in some cases, and now not his cloud services bill, like WTF?! Does he expect to go to Microsoft's Azure or Amazon's AWS like they don't expect him not to do the same?

It's especially troublesome because government agencies use this platform to communicate important information to the public. I think we might finally see his ass dragged before a congressional committee over this. Perhaps he's too afraid to tank his Telsa stock by selling shares.

Anyhow, the site since he took the reins has suffered a number of odd outages and people expected it to die for a long time but it has managed... but, jeez, not sure how much austerity the platform can take.

In somewhat related news Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg to a cage match and Zuckerberg accepted. Zuckerberg also announced recently his intentions to launch a Twitter competitor. Honestly I expect Musk to chicken out. He'll act 100% down for doing it and then at the 11th hour be like "they won't let me fight because of their stupid woke rules about verifying my vaccine status, I told them I've been 'immunized', so can't fight not my fault".

Part of the benefits Google provided included monitoring of material for inappropriate sexual content, child pornography, online harassment and hate content.

These features could lead to the site being taken off app stores like say from Apple, Google Play, Samsung stores. It might even get the platformed banned in some countries. They're already preparing to have the platform removed from the EU because they don't want to adhere to rules regarding the proliferation of harmful online misinformation that plan to go into effect.

@uninspiredcup: I think the only ones who think he's some genius have some gross cult like admiration for him. They were always there but I think he gained a whole new audience among those who champion him for catering to crowds that spread stuff like covid disinformation, Russian social media troll propaganda, and online hate speech.

He has an IQ of 155 so he's pretty close to a genius.

@lamprey263: In a portent of things to come, the IQ test he was taking crashed mid-test and burst into flames.

Shit's easy when you're playing with daddy's emerald mine money.

When you buy a company and start playing around with other people's money, though? That's when you find out maybe you're not such a big boy genius after all.

He should just have kept his mouth shut after the success with Tesla and battery related stuff.

Given the impact Twitter has I think Google is hesitant to shut down everything as well.

Oh I hope so. One down, quite a few more to go.

Also, according to this, he may have caused Twatter to DDOS itself:

Such incredible and hilarious level of incompetence.

...

More please.

@madrocketeer: yeah, that is an enlightening thread, another in the comments to that Tweet recognized that the denial of data from its own services has left it in a constant loop so it is just DDOS'ing itself, but believed part of the cloud services responsible are AWS related, signs it's likely being throttled for what he assumes Elon not paying his AWS bill

Seems few months ago it was reported Amazon was owed some $70 million by Musk. He's just letting those bills pile up too.

There was much talk last few week about this looming crisis of him not paying his Google bills. Though finding content about this is hard/rare. Any search related to Musk, Google, Twitter, you get the normal Musk cult BS that they think Musk is buying Google (first I heard of it!), obviously only plausible in ButtMusk's bullshit bubble.

Say what you will about pre-Musk Twitter.

But those guys actually had the service work, fought authoritarian governments straight to the courthouse (to protect free speech of its users), didnt scare off advertisers, didn't sack people for not writing enough lines of code and didnt charge people monthly for a blue checkmark (which was then abused, to tank the stock of several businesses).

You never know how good you have it until you no longer do. And Musk Era twitter has been a complete disaster. Musk is good at marketing, man... everything else, is just the midas touch of rubbish.

I use Twitter on a daily bases and I can tell you all know everyone I've talked to is upset with the changes and is already fleeing the sunken ship as we speak. As for me, I'm looking into going on Instagram as I've never been to that place nor ever consider making an account until now.

The first rule of owning a business is don't rock the boat and Elon Musk truly forgot about the golden rule.
