So basically Trump is going to remove funding from NASA's programs researching climate change because his party's ideology differs from the evidence on the matter. Between this and placing a climate change skeptic as the head of the EPA I'd say his actions on the matter speaks volumes and it doesn't bode well for humanity.

Surprised he doesn't want to scrap NASA entirely. Republicans hate science.

Further proves what an imbecile he is and how disastrous his government will be, not only for the US, but for the world.

"Mr Trump’s decisions will be based upon solid science, not politicized science.”

what is solid science vs. "politicized" science??

my guess is "politicized" is just solid where you do not like the results.

I don't want to see funding cut, myself. But, what are other countries doing to help fund the research on climate change? Are there other agencies putting as much work and funding?

Just another notch on Trump's deplorable plan. There's a reason why the biggest indicator of Trump vs Hillary this year was education and not income from voters. Trump and his cronies live in a fantasy where objective reality doesn't exist.

NASA hasn't done shit in a long time. Why hasn't NASA land on Mars yet? These guys are supposed to show us Humanity reaching through the stars but hasn't done a damn thing yet and the farthest thing Humanity has ever done was landing on the Moon and that's it. NASA has failed getting Humans on Mars and I'm not surprise Trump is gonna scrap NASA.

Remember kids. Researching gun violence and climate change is a big no no because facts are very scary. But also because of money.

"We're going to build the greatest space station of all time. It's going to be fabulous. It's going to be yuuuuuuuuge. And Mars is going to pay for it. Believe me folks."

On a serious note, it would take a major commitment of resources and manpower on an international level just to land on Mars as well as the technology and making sure everything is timely and smooth. We did land on the moon but not many people cared. People need to care about going to Mars. Also, NASA does other stuff.

On topic, eh, not really a smart move considering the current...political and scientifical climate. It's not "politicized science" if everyone doing the research reaches the same conclusion.

Really hope he does a U-turn on this.

The Gulf Coast state republicans will probably oppose this move since they have been dealing with the effects of climate change in the last decade or so.

Arguing over the literal meaning of words as opposed to the obvious intended meaning is the literal definition of arguing semantics.

Referring to the death of the human race as the end of the world has been common for thousands of years. For example in the biblical end of the world the earth will still exist, it's surface will just be made barren.

What? New Horizons just sent us the first pictures of Pluto we've ever seen. Do you think that sending unmanned space craft don't count for some reason? Hell, just look at their satellites like Keplar. Since it's launch we've discovered thousands of exo-planets when their existence was largely presumptive prior to it.

People take their work for granted all the time. This is even ignoring the amount of devices or processes they've outright invented.

Please spell out the words that I used from which you could discern that I don't believe global warming is a serious issue. Specific words.

I brought up parties because that's what the people I quoted were talking about, and I was the first to state this decision to cut NASA's funding for climate change is bullshit and politics have nothing to do with science. When did reading a person's post become more difficult than inventing stuff completely out of the blue and putting it in people's mouths?

Telling people to calm down when describing a very serious issue in a serious manner makes it seem like you don't think it's a serious issue. At what point is it fair to say that Trump's policies are destroying the world?

You seem to be arguing against something nobody said. Science and politics are separate, nobody is arguing otherwise. Politicised science is similar to pseudoscience, it contains the word science but that doesn't make it so, in fact it means the opposite.

I brought up parties because that's what the people I quoted were talking about, and I was the first to state this decision to cut NASA's funding for climate change is bullshit and politics have nothing to do with science. When did reading a person's post become more difficult than inventing stuff completely out of the blue and putting it in people's mouths?

"if everyone just calmed the **** down and stopped acting as if everything the guys in the opposing party do will bring about the end of the world."

"At what point is it fair to say that Trump's policies are destroying the world?"

Trump's policies are doing jack seeing how he's still a couple months away from being able to even start applying them. Also, he's cutting the funding of the NASA, that's not the same as making policies that completely ignore global warming.

I didn't argue with anybody in that post. You're the one who's arguing over literally nothing.

honestly his ignorance of climate change is more alarming to me than all of this alleged racism.

Its pretty freaking spectacularly horrid to say the least, but not surprising seeing as Republicans in general have denied it for decades now.. But at the same time looking at the other end, the democrats have literally done jack shit about this problem either.. Hillary Clinton was pro fossil fuels industry, was completely for fracking, and her VP was so in the pockets of the coal industry he might as well been their paid representative.. The only person who actually spoke out against this and not bend over for the fossil fuels industry was Bernie Sanders.. I have absolutely no confidence that establishment Democrats would have done anything remotely big to ever change business as usual.. These candidates on both ends for the general election are a absolute disgrace, and the establishment forced them onto the public thinking they would have to choose the most corrupt candidate over Trump.. Even then I think Trump is going to be a typical republican, anti science, anti education, same old shit over and over again.. Hopefully the Democrats can get their heads out of their asses.

No scientist believes we can physically destroy the earth.

Learn the difference between making it harder for other species and our species to live here, and actually destroying the earth itself.

Grab a dictionary and look up 'Destroy'. I don't think you quite understand what it means. Destroy doesn't necessarily = annihilate, erase, etc.

destroy

  • 1 : to ruin the structure, organic existence, or condition of <destroyed the files>; also : to ruin as if by tearing to shreds <their reputation was destroyed>

to reduce (an object) to useless fragments, a useless form, or remains, as by rending, burning, or dissolving; injure beyond repair or renewal; demolish; ruin; annihilate.

Really, I'm surprised someone is having to explain to you that words have multiple definitions.

Sweet. Only if he did away with NASA altogether.

Just read this earlier today: Tuna’s Declining Mercury Contamination Linked to U.S. Shift Away from Coal

NASA has compiled a vast array of scientific data showing mans involvement in causing climate change.

One piece that I feel really stands out, paper signed by a number of country officials including all BRIC nations

____

“We live on planet Earth and there is much to discover, and it is essential to track and monitor many things from space. Information on planet Earth and its atmosphere and oceans is essential for our way of life. Space research is a luxury, Earth observations are essential.”

That's a very accurate quote, something Trump should absolutely consider.

I totally believe in climate change. I also believe it's just a normal process and means very little in the long run.

Tens of thousands of species will benefit from a warming planet so it seems a bit selfish to be pissy just because it is not your species that benefits.

We only exist because bacteria dumped deadly polluting oxygen into the atmosphere. Are you that petty that you can't let others benefit from our pollution?

Btw, the planet is not going to be destroyed, stop being a bunch of drama queens.

I am confused on the Republican position on this issue. Are you guys now accepting that climate change is real, but arguing that the process should be allowed to cause harm to people?

I've just noticed this argument popping up ever more frequently from the Republicans on the board, but if you want to restrict the question to "you", have at it.

The good news is that President Trump will spend the money that he recovers from NASA's "Earth Sciences" division on inspiring projects, like:

  • a return to the moon,
  • the establishment of a new American state for 13,000 people on the moon and
  • the human exploration of all planets in the solar system.

It's all here ...

Trump to send men back to the moon and 'explore entire solar system' rather than fight climate change

Now that the Obama-era of junk science is behind us, an exciting era of discovery and progress lies ahead.

By the time Donald's 12+ years in the White House are up, he will have accomplished so much for American science and exploration that grateful, awestruck citizens will petition to rename one of the planets after him. Maybe even Earth.

:D
