The first documented human case of West Nile virus in Clark County this year has left a 75-year-old woman hospitalized with a potentially fatal form of the disease, public health officials reported Friday.

A virus that doesn't really affect normal, healthy people? Don't worry.

I don't think it's something you have to really worry about.

But if there's already a case of a fatal form, doesn't that mean that potentially more people could be infected with it?

Do you realize how many people in the US alone die from the common cold?

Stock food and water supplies, prepare for the impending zombie apocalypse.

I don't think the West Nile virus makes people become zombies...

It doesn't really kill people, either.

Why are you afraid of a virus that only affect old people and little kids?

Go one step further and lock yourself in a room that doesn't have an internet connection.

It's likely you've been bitten and infected already. In mostly people, they don't get any symptoms.

The first sign of infection is loss of higher brain functions; it looks like TC has already succumbed to the disease. :(

You do realise that even if you sealed yourself in a house for a long while, you would still become unwell since most viruses are air borne and can slip through even the tiniest of spaces. Panicking over it won't solve anything, it might just make it actually happen.

No that's just a pre-existing condition.

Its not airborne, its spread via mosquito bites.

How you gonna get the burgers then?

Don't worry, the "I Am Legend" scenario is highly unlikely.
I think a few deaths have already been attributed to it in Oklahoma.
#29 Posted by BatCrazedJoker (1978 posts) -
You shouldn't be that worried about it if you are healthy.
#30 Posted by ShadowMoses900 (17081 posts) -

It is only fatal to people with weak immune systems (such as HIV victims), the very young, and the very elderly.

I don't let things like this scare me. I don't think about doomsday things, if I found out today that the world will end without a doubt tomorrow, I would just keep going on as I do. I don't worry about things I cannot control, just live my life trying to be as happy as I can.

Is this as bad as the Swine Flu epidemic that killed less people in the US than the normal flu?
#32 Posted by TunaRoot (53 posts) -
You only have to worry about West Nile if you are really young, sickly, old, or a combination of the three. Don't ask me how you can be old and young at the same time haha.
