So I was just thinking, as I was eating some mashed potatoes, what if I started a restaurant where the main ingredients were potatoes? I love potatoes, as I'm sure most people do; in fact I don't think I've come across one person who didn't like potatoes. Potatoes are like the Irish equivalent to pasta. They're cheap, delicious, and it doesn't take much to feed a whole group. I'm sure there are restaurants that have already started this but I feel I could bring something unique to the table. What do you think?

Potatoes are great, as a main or as a side or appetizer.

Pub I used to go to had like 10 different kinds of stuff potato skins. They used the inside to make croquettes, another delicious potato thing.

You can make variations on french fries, ranging from cheddar cheese and bacon fries, garlic fries, poutine, and so forth.

Kind of hard to turn potatoes into an entree or as a main dish, though. There's shepard pie which is basically beef stew with mashed potatoes on top. I mean you don't want to eat just potato as your main entree.

Spud Grubs

Totes Tates

I believe you have an excellent idea and I would certainly go to a place like that if they really lived up to the theme. You'd better serve vodka cocktails as well.

have potato pancakes with sides of sour cream and apple sauce, tater tots with an assortment of tasty proprietary dipping sauces, hash browns, a big sin of many fast food restaurants is they don't make fries as made-to-order they just cook a shit ton at once and shovel them out as time goes when they've gone cold and soft and soggy so don't do that, potato skins, Irish nachos, cheesy fries, poutine, all that good stuff.

I too was thinking you can call it "Spuds" or something like that but there's probably like a gazillion of those so workshop the name so you don't get sued. Maybe "Taters"?

Taco meat is the best topping for a potato. Followed by bean less chili and cheese.

I've always recognized potatoes as side dishes.

Fries, mash potatoes, baked potato, potato soup, etc. But then again, I'm American so what a side dish may seem to us may be an entree for you.

Maybe a fast food chain restaurant?

I think you could create a competitive fast food style restaurant out of the idea as these exist already.

Id steer clear of trying to create a sit down dining experience from the potato though. The main reason I eat out is because I like the variety of foods on offer. I almost always have some potatoes in the cupboard and almost always decide to eat out or get a takeaway...specifically because that potato doesnt inspire me to eat it. It inspires me to eat something else.

In a service station however the thought of a jacket potato lathered in cheese or some spicy wedges sounds great.

I dont see the harm in making the potato a key ingredient in every dish....or becoming famous for producing amazing wedges or fries....I even think the potato "theme" could be a selling point. Just dont focus too much effort on making the main ingredient of every dish a potato.

Id rather go to "spudz" and have half a chicken with Jumpin Jacks Spicy Spud Wedges than go to Spudz and have....a spud.
