I'm speaking mostly of social activities that everyone should have some knowledge of.

I'd say the following are activities everyone should be able to do and/or at least have enough knowledge to participate.

  • Pool/billiards
  • Chess and checkers
  • An understanding of a deck of cards (suite names, # of cards, etc.)

What are some similar things that you think everyone should know?

every driver should know how to use their blinkers.

you would be amazed how many drivers neglect to use them, and it pisses me off to no end.

I know all those, chess is something schools should require kids to play.

Everybody should know how to swim.

Besides what was said above, I don't want to touch the shit you touch if you're coughing/sneezing on your hand. I prefer to not catch whatever you have.

Everyone should know how to cook, change a tire, and pump their own gas. Yes, believe it or not, there are some people who have never pumped gas themselves and don't know how to.

I would imagine this is primarily people who do not drive cars. Which is a fairly large population of the world.

Not so much "participate" per se, but I think everyone should have at least a basic understanding and respect for social graces, culture and acceptance of different opinions and lifestyles.

I would of said that is the silliest thing i've ever heard to the point of calling you are just throwing around false exaggerated statements............................

untill I dated my last girl... and here in Florida there is no such thing as gas pump service (where some dude does it fro you like some Northern states). I had to teach her... and some black guy started laughing and shaking his head (I felt ashamed too... i couldnt belive how dumb this girl was to a bunch of basic things you really need in life). And yes she live her whole life in Florida too, she just turned 22 years old.

I only know this because I live close to mountains... It took the necessity for me to find other methods away from me. I suppose if I thought about it for 30 seconds it would be easy to figure out.

@airshocker: I drove to new jersey on my way to nyc. I stopped to get gas and got out to pump my car and someone came running and said sir have a seat back in your car. Then asked for my credit card and began pumping. It was weirdest thing to sit there while someone else pumped my car. It felt uncomfortable and unnatural.

There are pushes to get the law changed. I had my credit card number stolen and it was the credit card that I use only when I go into New Jersey to get gas.

@airshocker: so it's a law you can't pump your own gas or just very station to station? I have only ever seen one station ever that pumped gas and it was only one special pump and I believe they tacked a few cent a gallon on so I never used it.

Yeah it's a law. There may be exceptions throughout the state but since I live in NY I haven't seen any.

Just some old law that never got replaced. I'm sure they'd actually get lower gas prices if it was self-serve.

i'd say one thing is.

be able to go though an airport security screening in an efficient manner. have your IDs ready, know what needs to be emptied from your pockets / removed from your person to go through a scanner. don't want until the last second like and idiot then forget you have to take your laptop out of your bag or take your shoes off.

it's the law across the board in jersey. in ny i know there are some places that offer full service as an option, but you pay more for it
