do you think there will be one? i really hope not. it seems like everynow and then someone in congress proposes a draft. that would be pretty scary. have nothing against foreign policy, i even supported the war at first, but its not fair to send people out there that didnt volunteer. i hope i never see a draft in my lifetime or a war in america in my life time.
It probably will not go in effect for a long time. I can't see anyone being stupid enough again to attack America. Also I hope it doesn't for a long time because I'm only 19 and would probably get drafted.

Yeah, I think there are enough people and the Dems are really pushing to get the guys out of there (which is a good idea if their requirements aren't met but they need to do it in a smart fashion) and they did up the age to 45 so people can join even if they are older. We'll see though, I think we have enough volunteers though so it shouldn't be an issue right now.
In a legal sense, I doubt it'd happen unless another 9/11 occured and we were fully aware of the country(ies) responsible. Not to say it was...meh...that's for another topic... Unless there's a clear reason for the war, the draft won't happen. I don't mean the government won't allow it; I mean the Constitution won't allow it. It's in writing (and it should be known to everyone) that if a government abuses it's power, the people have the right to abolish it.

well it would affect 19-42 year olds, so its not like you can grow out of the draft...
they say theyre low on volunteers, and that the people out there are usually uneducated and thats why that guy proposed it to get college kids out there.
and theyll have something so that you can leave to canada, some immunization act thingy.

True, but 42 year olds are a lot less likely to get drafted than 19 year olds. Even if there was a draft, I don't think anyone past the age of 30 would actually go unless the situation was really bad.
I have a hunch that if the situation with Iran deteriorates into some kind of military engagement, then The military will be hard pressed to get the troops it needs. Large amounts of the Iraq war are actually being sub-contracted to mercenary groups already, so I would not expect some sort of draft if the situation spiraled into a full on invasion of Iraq by Iran.
If I wanted to go to war I would have enlisted in the military so of course I don't want a draft, but I have always done what is needed to be done, so if I must then I shall

There won't be a draft, even if the whole middle east began fighting in an uproar. We have more troops then anyone can imagine, there won't be a need for a draft.
