The RAND Corporation is a non-profit "think tank" that provides research and analysis for the US military. It receives funding from both the US government and private corporations.

In an analysis of the F-35's ability to match Chinese and Russian aircraft in "visual range combat", RAND concluded that the F-35 was inferior in acceleration, climbing and sustained turn capability.

Simply put: The F-35 "can't turn, can't climb, can't run".

:-|

In wargames that pitted teams comprising F-35s, F-22 Raptors and FA-18E/F Super Hornets against teams comprising Russian Su27s, Su30s and Su35s, the latter outperformed the former so convincingly that the exercise was described as "like clubbing baby seals".

WTF were our tax dollars spent on? :-(

Would be better if you provided a link to RAND's analysis of the F35.

Their entire existence was based on a make-work campaign.

They found out last year that even the stealth tec doesn't work after the Russian revealed their new radar systems.

And god help them against the Sukhoi PAK FA and MiG-35 if they can't even beat 20-30 year old designs.

meh, in an age of surface to ground intelligent missiles, advanced radar, high tech anti-aircraft weaponry, and real time satellite imagery fighters are almost obsolete. Why fly a fighter at the enemy when you can just blow them out of the sky from a nice little cubicle.

When does that EVER happen these days? Our aircraft engage well before they are in visible range.

military contracting isn't about getting the best equipment to our fighting forces, it's political in nature, it's about getting money to people who lobby for it, it's about people in the middle taking advantage of that money, with all the money that's being poured into our defense forces we should be achieving better results

So Russia's new radar systems is great against even the F-22? I was under the impression that the F-22 was cutting edge.

As the US forces has learned repeatedly, frequently when you're against comparable forces. Now, it is definitely true to say that close combat isn't the only concern, that has also been shown historically, but if I'm to believe the OP analysis, even without the close combat restrict they were getting pwned badly. That said, I have my doubts on this analysis. Still it wouldn't be terribly shocking to find out that F-22 and F-35 development has produced inadequate aircraft compared to contemporary opponents.

I didn't watch the video , but isn't the point to attack BEYOND visual range? Dogfights don't happen anymore as far I know and are not expected to.

It's approaching 20 years old at this point, and was in development in the 80's

Instead of showing us an extremely biased youtube video, link us a recent news article.
