[QUOTE="killerfist"][QUOTE="TheFlush"]

Roel (pronounce: rule) is a Dutch name and it means 'famous for bravery'.
It's derived from the Germanic word 'hroth' meaning fame.
The first time the name Roel has been recorded in written history was in 829 A.D. in a Germanic chronicle about a knight named Roel.

Roel rules :P

My neighbour from Downstairs is from the US and she cannot pronounce my name properly hehe. The Dutch 'R' is pretty difficult if your not from around here. It's pretty cute the way she says my name.

haha This "Roel rules" thing comes from this guy I know (also named Roel) who went to the US for vacation. People there always replied with "Hey man, you rule!" whenever he told them his name haha.

a unit of measurement used by the Israelites during the harvest, and somehow turned into a fairly popular name in the modern era.

not a particularly exciting name.

hmm...mine just means "man" or "manly" or "of a man" lol.

which is funny, because I don't really embody manliness, unless you embrace the concept of "he is so secure in his manliness, he doesn't care what others think, and has no problem grabbing another man's ass"

Mine was a combination of half of one name and half of another.  My parents couldn't decide what to name me.

My first name is Matthew, which means "Gift from God." Matthew was one of Jesus' 12 apostles, and the human author of the book of Matthew, the first of four gospels in the New Testament; in the gospel of Matthew, Jesus is emphasized as the Messiah.

It's not uncommon to name children after religious characters.  I was looking up my family's names right now and most of the ones on my dad's side are derived from one saint or another, most of the ones on my mom's side are derived from Biblical characters who are prominent on Protestant circles.  Every Jewish person I know has a name derived from the Torah, and even most atheists end up naming their kids after some religious figure simply because of how prominent those names are in our society.

As for the topic, mine means ever-ruler.  I don't think my parents really knew that, I think they just chose one of the more popular names at the time, which I think kinda sucks because there are just too many people with the same name as me.  I guess my sister had it worse, though.  Hers wasn't as popular at the time, but it's only gotten more popular since then whereas mine has kind of petered off.

Mine is Dequan, which is a variation of Daquan. The only origin is that it is African-American even though I am black and Puerto Rican. Even though I suck at speaking spanish since I live with my black mom and not my hispanic father.

Stanley: From a surname meaning "stone clearing" in Old English.

Huh, that is incredibly unexciting.
