http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/10/obama-shakes-raul-castro-hand-at-mandela-service/

What do you think about The Shake?

Does this alter your views on Obama?

Do you feel that Obama should try and gain back the trust and respect he tarnished?

Is this basically nothing to care about?

Discuss.

I don't think anything's going to come pout of this...................

I think that when Fox news is outraged about a handshake the folks there are simply trying to keep their job, which in large part is being outraged at the president.

If they don't have something legitimate they will bitch and moan about something (anything) with enough false conviction until their core audience agrees with them.

I'll start taking some of these fuckers seriously when they start holding some of the other bloody dictators we support to task.

I was expecting a new dance/youtube thing, like the Harlem Shake, that had something to do with Obama. Needless to say, I'm terribly disappointed.

Nothing is going to change. Obama later criticized the Castros indirectly in his speech. Relations will stay the same.

About as significant as the crocodile tears shed for the loss of the south african leader.

I won't lie. That would have been pretty awesome to see. Teddy would have done it.

It's a respectful handshake at a funeral, nothing more. Just FoxNews trying to make something against Obama out of nothing, as usual.

I don't understand the hate for Fidel, Raul, and Che.

I guess America forgot Cuba was one of the few nations to help Angolan people obtain equality, and prosperity. America pretty much said "Nope, blacks don't need equality".

I thought Obama was Hitler, and if he's appeasing Hitler, that's like some paradox enducing handshake that could tear the very fabric of space and time and trigger the end of times.

At this point it is not even surprising for Obama to be caught palling around with communists, and the fact that so many here are willing to brush it aside is disturbing and speaks to the level of degeneration that this country has suffered, both intellectually and politically through the debasement of the constitution, the constitution that the founders intended.

Obama attends the funeral of a communist dictator and shakes the hand of another communist dictator. You people say it is not a big deal for Obama to shake hands with someone at a funeral, but why was he even at that funeral in the first place? Nelson Mandela's association with communist terrorist organizations is well-documented. The leader of the supposedly free world has no business there. The leader of the supposedly free world has no business sanctioning communism.

Try opening your eyes to what's happening rather than burying your heads in the sand whenever you see a piece of reality that you don't like.

Hey I think Sauron's realm might have been more "diverse" than the other realms. Gondor and Rohan just had men, Erebor only had dwarves, Lorien, Rivendell, Thranduil's kingdom and I think the Grey Havens pretty much had only elves living there. I think Bree had both big people and hobbits. But Sauron's realm had all kinds of races, it had various orcs (uruks, snufflers, etc.), trolls, and a different races of people (Black Numenoreans, Haradrim, Easterlings, people from Umbar).

#27 Posted by whipassmt (13937 posts) -

No big deal. World leader's often have to work with or at least get along with other heads of state that may be a bit unsavory. FDR met with Stalin which was probably necessary, though he should have stood up to Stalin more. Also I think Raul Castro has been making some reforms towards a more free country, I remember hearing a few years ago that he let people legally own cellphones, plus the Cuban government has been in negotiations with Spain and the Archbishop of Havana that have gotten some political prisoners released, though there are still some prisoners I think. For his part, Fidel Castor did reinstate Christmas as a national holiday (he had suppressed it after taking power, but he reinstated it as a token of gratitude to Pope John Paul II for speaking out against the embargo). That being said I think Obama could've used that handshake as an opportunity to talk to Castro about Alan Grossman who is an American citizen imprisoned in Cuba (maybe he did, I don't know). I think the U.S. should end or begin to loosen its embargo and travel restrictions on Cuba, and that the communist regime in Cuba will probably lose power eventually (I mean the Castro brothers are up there in age).

I think the bigger deal with Obama is the deal that the U.S. and Iran entered into. Among other things the U.S. released an Iranian nuclear scientist, but the Iranians still have Saeed Abedini, who is a dual American-Iranian citizen imprisoned because of his religion, in prison.
