So this is on reddit right now:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGRIzkT8178

The title for the post is "17 year old brutally assaulted by police officer after complying and requesting his mother be on scene, after his friend is pulled over for a license plate light out. Cops attempt to delete video."

So that's not what I see personally. First of all, they were doing anything but complying. The officer told them what the probable cause was, asked them repeatedly to exit the vehicle, tried to remove the guy from the vehicle after he refused over and over again which the kid yanked back and told the cops to get the F off him, then they tried pepper spray and told him again, then of course the taser.

I'm not a law expert either, but I don't think there's any law that says a police officer has to wait for someone's mommy to come before any action is taken when they have probable cause.

Regarding the cops trying to delete the video, that I am not sure of. If true, the cops are scumbags as well. If not, I wouldn't be surprised.

Oh, and despite the girl insisting "that's not something I allow in my car" like a lying little brat in regards to the weed and the car smelling like it, they were busted with pot lol.

When I was 17 or 18 I got stopped by the police for speeding. I was polite and answered their questions and they let me off with a warning.

Now I know I should have just screamed at them about my mom and how old I was.

Well unless people try different approaches how can we ever know what the appropriate responses should be? We should be thanking these brave, intelligent teens for showing us how to ensure a traffic stop goes smoothly.

Tasers and pepper spray are very overrated. We used tase each other as teens at keg parties for fun. Not trying to say it's pleasant, but the kid is clearly acting.

You act like a little shit you get treated like a little shit...welcome to life, kid. He got warned several times he'd be tased..."I'm 17 years old! I'm 17 years old!" then act like it you little turd...hope his mother slapped the crap out of him when she got there; I'm be embarrassed to have a son who's at the same time both an ass and a wimp...

Where's the cop trying to delete the video, though? Didn't see anything like that.

@thegerg: Isn't the voltage on a stun gun higher than a taser? (EDIT: Just read that it's mostly the amps that count, not the voltage. Not sure if it's true)

@thegerg: Interesting info. That would explain why you don't need a registration and background check to buy a stun gun but need them in order to purchase a taser. Thanks Greg =)

It varies, but the voltage really isn't the issue. Unlike a standard "stun gun", a TASER is a NMI (neuromuscular incapacitation) weapon. Your normal stun gun interferes with the sensory nervous of the target. They're painful, that's it. Using pain to gain compliance can work, but not always. People can fight through pain, and can still flee after you shock them.

TASERs, on the other hand, interfere with both sensory and (most importantly) motor nervous functions. If a TASER is deployed correctly it hurts like hell, but ALSO incapacitates the target's motor skeletal muscle function. It literally prevents a person from controlling their own body. Also, the pain inflicted on the target is spread through every muscle group between where the two probes impact.

You can find some videos on Youtube, if you like. Someone shocked with a normal stun gun will usually just yell and pull away. A person properly exposed to TASER will seize up and be unable to flee or resist.

Both sound very dangerous to me. I think the police should stick to plain ol' concussive force (e.g. batons and fists).

@Renevent42: Were you using a TASER or just a stun gun?

I've been hit with both. Friends dad was a cop and had access to both. What the other person said is true though, taser is def on another level than a standard stun gun. Regarding pepper spray we messed around with the regular mace and I'm also a veteran so did the whole CS training. Kid in the video was either a giant wus or just acting for the camera.

My main experience with tasers comes from Syphon Filter. Is it true that if you use a taser on someone for more than 5 seconds they catch on fire?

@thegerg: The difference looks very evident =)

Don't be ridiculous; it takes at least 12 seconds for them to fire up.
