From the threads in OT it seems many like fast food so I was wondering if any of you like some of the better food choices out there. Like steak. If so how do you like it cooked?

I stick with well done. I can't eat anything remotely raw. But a good cut of meat prepared correctly will still be juicy.

Steak is awesome. I like it medium-rare, but I'm one of those people that can totally enjoy a rare steak and like when it has a bit of blood in it. My friends think that's really weird.

Steak is awesome, I have it Medium rare or rare depending on were I'm eating.

If the place specializes in steak I'll ask for Medium Rare

If the place does not specialize in steak I'll ask for Rare

You gotta love steak. I use to only like it well done, but I have come around to medium well. Frankly steak is far better than anything fast food can provide, but since you get fast food more often that is what you will see discussed on a more regular basis.

Also A1 sauce can be good on occasion, but I'm of the opinion that a steak's flavor should be able to stand on it's own. What do you think about steak sauce LJ?

Never use steak sauce. The food should stand on it's own.

I vaguely remember eating a medium rare steak, i think i tasted very good. But now, i'm worried about the heatlh risks from eating meat that isn't well done, so i stay away from eating stuff that isn't cooked through.

I am not a fan of steak at all. All the steak I have ever had was just tough and hard to chew.

And if I ever do eat steak (which I never do), I would want it well-done. If I eat any meat that is even remotely raw, I get food poisoning.

One time I ate a couple pieces of smoked sausage that were cooked on the outside, and raw just in the very middle, and I had food poisoning for the next two days.

I'm pretty sensitive to raw meat.

@GreySeal9: That's not actually blood at all. Most of the blood is removed during the slaughtering process. That red liquid coming out is myoglobin and is the protein responsible for giving red meat its red color. but its not blood.

I like to put steaks in a smoker, smoked with mesquite wood until the internal temperature is 112 degrees farenheit. Then i sear it on a grill for about 2 or 3 minutes on each side. Tastes like yums.

@Kevlar101: If you cook a steak past medium you ruin the integrity of the meat. It becomes chewy and tough. That and a poor cut of steak will make it tough.

If anybody in this thread were to go spend $50 on a steak and have it done medium rare to medium they would find out just out great steak is.

I have had(and made) steaks that can be cut through easily with a butter knife.

As for your food poisoning. Just no. Food poisoning is a bacteria that makes you sick, usually within a couple hours and only lasts until your body has purged the offending bacteria. Food poisoning doesn't last for days...

I like a good Filet Mignon or a New York Strip done rare (warmed completely through, still dripping with juice), properly seasoned (salt and pepper, nothing else to adulterate the flavour of the meat) and a good sized high ball of single malt scotch (like Glenfiddich) or proper straight bourbon whiskey (like Maker's Mark).

When I see people put ketchup on a $35 steak, I almost throw up at the notion.

Only medium or medium rare for me, anything above medium just ruins the steak. I also never put sauce on it, a good steak doesn't need sauce.

To me, well cooked and rubbery aren't synonyms at all. I think the difference is in the thickness. I feel that for a lot of Americans (and probably people from other places as well) a steak is something the thickness of my closed fist (yeah, if you try to eat that well cooked you might as well eat charcoal), but to me a steak is something the thickness of my finger or less, so trying to make that medium rare is pretty much leaving it raw.

These would be the normal thickness of the steaks I'm used to eating

I'm Slovenian, and to me that's not really a steak haha

But it's hard to describe since the direct translation of steak to Slovenian is what I'd use to describe that, but I'd call a thick steak a steak in English... If that makes any sense.

Also medium-rare, I'm boring like that.
