Well, it's that time again to talk about the Olympics, so we can talk about it in this topic.

NOTE 1: I made this topic on the sports board but Master_Live suggested I put it here too.

NOTE 2: Can someone please sticky this topic (And the one on Sports)?

NOTE 3: Can someone please keep track of the medal count? I'm too busy. >_>

I liked the big "history of Russia" play. The German athlete's uniforms were pretty funny looking. The Venezuelan athlete was pretty excited.

Welp, just finished watching the Slopestyle. I was quite surprised by Maxence Parrot getting the score he did.

Medal Count 2/11/2014, 19:38:00 Eastern Time. The United States the favorite to win this years winter games has been severely lagging behind. They are not performing nearly as well as anticipated. Norway on the other hand continues to show their dominance at the Winter Games. As one of the best Winter countries of all time they still show they have what it takes to be successful in winter sports.

I call biased officiating in the US vs Canada hockey game. First, they award Canada its second goal despite having blown the whistle before it went in. Then their third goal happened when a referee got in the way of Team USA causing a breakaway goal for Team Canada. >_>

Medal Count: 2/12/2014 18:45:00 Eastern Time. This is the medal count that is in line with the official Sochi website. They give more points for gold which gives Germany the overall lead even though they have fewer total medals then the other teams in the top 5. The USA continues to drag behind. With the surprising loss of Shaun White and the other American snowboarders as well as dragging in various other events the United States is having a pretty poor showing while Norway and Canada continue to bring home a significant number of medals.

Medal Count: 2/13/2014 18:54:00 Eastern Time: Little change in the standings. The United States is still in the hunt adding a few more medals to their total. Canada and Germany still doing quite well in this years games. Should be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Medal Count 2/14/2014 18:46:00 Eastern Time: After sweeping the board in the slopestyle ski event the United States has put themselves into serious 1st place position in the medal count. Some people count overall medals rather than weighted golds/silvers/bronze. In this circumstance the U.S. is tied for the lead with Norway. In this particular count they hold a strong 4th place position with Germany still atop the leaderboard.

Sorry I slacked a day. Here's the most recent medal counts. U.S. can't seem to win any more golds (or silvers for that matter). While they have 2nd place tie for medals overall they can't seem to nab the important golds. Although the way the United States hockey teams have been playing their gold count should improve once hockey reaches the finals.

Medal Count 2/17/2014 18:30:00 Eastern Time: It's a very tight race in the medal standings. It's anyone's guess as to who will take the top honors this year as the winning team.

Medal Rankings, 2/18/2014 17:55:00 Eastern Time: The United States is tied in overall medals with the Netherlands but Germany still holds top spot in overall weighted rankings. However it's still very close and any of the top 5 could still leave with top honors.

I must be missing something about figure skating judging. How can a girl bust her ass on the ice and still end up in the top 3?

I was demanding to know that during the team competition when Japan advanced after a fall. She had the third best score that night. >_>

Russia lost in hockey. WTF?! I was looking forward to a showdown between Team USA and Team Russia. Vladimir Putin must've broken several chairs. >_>

At least I have Canada vs. USA in women's hockey. Hopefully we get revenge after getting screwed last week.

I'm Canadian, I stopped watching with 4 mins left when it was 2-0, checked the final score 10 mins later and was shocked to see it got tied up. Saw that post-hitting shot in a replay, thats some rough luck for team USA.

Medal Count: 2/20/2014.. With only a few days left Norway continues to show why they are the current kings of the Winter games. While the United States has begun to search. They lead in total medals and are now up to 2nd in Gold medal rankings. With only a few days left it'll be interesting to see if anyone can topple the dominate Norway team.

The IOC counts medals via gold medals. At the end of the games the team with the most gold medals will be recognized as the winner by the International Olympic Committee. There is really no realistically perfect way to keep track of medals and each country does it their own way really. In the U.S. we simply look at total count. Some countries use a weighted system and other look at only golds like the IOC. No way is really any better than the others I'm just giving the official IOC counts.

How is looking at total medal count not better than looking at gold only? I mean, the way IOC does it makes Germany look elite when it's not.
