So the Netflix show Dear White People...

Have you seen the trailer? It's really pissed off a lot of people. Tons of people were saying they were going to cancel their subscriptions over it. What are your thoughts?

Personally, I don't care. If something really annoys me, I just don't watch it.

I heard the director is married to his white boyfriend, and he recently fired a white writer that kept making anti-white setiments when working on his pilot. I am just gonna wait and see

I couldn't care less. I even support Moore and D'Souza to speak their minds regardless of how insightful or dumb their views may be.

The trailer says theaters but this thread says Netflix -- is it both or what? In terms of the movie, if it actually is smart satire I'm down.

All white people are privileged. Hopefully this show will bring to light this fact and then white people and get to making things right.

The director is gay, and is happily married with his now spouse that happens to be white. The director is Black BTW. Also, the movie came out at 2014, but was an indie film and Netflix signed a deal for an actual TV Show

Gonna be an amazing show. The trailers are thought provoking and working. The movie was amazing satire. Its to die for.

The movie is trending now. You can check it out on Amazon Prime for free. Its worth it, its a fun ride and very enlightening.

Meh. I'm not going to give up a service that I watch on a daily basis because of one show that I think is going to bomb on the soul purpose that very little people will be watching it, and there will be enough people canceling their subscriptions over this show without me needing to cancel as well to show Netflix that the show is a bad investment. You have to really be fired up over something in order to boycott, and I simply just don't give a **** enough about this show to boycott. Speaking of which, boycott culture is becoming just as idiotic as any other reactive culture, and I'm not going to add to it.

I still haven't seen the film. Apparently it's quite good and not as illogical and racist as the trailer made it look.

I'm not a big fan of all these tv shows based on films, so I'll probably just watch the film.

Honestly, I think this thing is overblown. It's just a stupid-looking movie, based on the trailer. I wouldn't be surprised if the film is one of those things that looks racist on the surface but ultimately preaches against it (and not just in the typical racist SJW fashion).

Calling for the boycott of a movie, book, or show does not equal asking the government to ban said movie, book, or show. Nor does it equate to a publisher or media platform only allowing certain messages to be heard.

It's based off a movie that has 91% on RT. Supposed to be quite good, I'd check it out. Tessa Thompson is pretty cute.

Has anyone seen the movie itself? The movie wasn't racist towards white people at all. In fact, it felt like it made fun of itself by portraying the complexities of race relations and the hypocrisies from both sides (when certain white characters said that racism doesn't exist but launch a race-themed costume party and when certain black characters show hostility towards a black gay man either because of his homosexuality or because he wasn't "black enough.") In fact, the characters were actually quite complex. Granted, the title was provocative but I think that was the point: To generate controversy.

Anyways, the tv series seems weird. Instead of a spin-off, they're recasting the characters from the movie into the TV series with what appears to be a similar plot? I think it would have made more sense with just having a spin-off with a different college setting and cast of characters in the aftermath of the original movie.

As for the people canceling their subscriptions to Netflix, I don't care. Luke Cage came out and people bitched and moaned about that because he was anti-cop or something.

Which reinforces that conservatives and the Alt-right are the biggest snowflakes in this country. To be fair, a "Dear Black People" would illicit a similar response but then again, as Sam White puts it, Fox News does it all the time. :P

@drunk_pi: Yeah it was pretty good, grade A satire. I think i would have loved the original cast, but i guess maybe would be weird since the movie was so good. I want to read the Sam White book so badly. I hope the show goes more into the book and maybe we get a release for it. I think the movie does a great job at bridging the gap in our differences and how we understand one another.

Its perfect for whats going on today. The backlash is a prime example and i couldnt be more happy of the light the series has received from it. The trailer was also a fresh addition, so its got me hyped to watch the show and see what else they do to keep it fresh.
