The reason for this thread is because I'm looking to get back into shooting and possibly small game hunting. When I was younger(18-22 or so) I would go hunting with my uncle and shoot skeet. I did not keep up with it, but for the last 2 years or so its constantly crossed my mind to get back into it. I'm deciding to take the plunge.

I'm looking at shotguns specifically. Also, I'm leaning towards a single shot since they are entry friendly and easy to maintain. Is this is a good starting point or do you suggest something else? Also, I wouldn't mind seeing everyone's collection.

I'd recommend a pump. It's not complicated to maintain and operate and offers more flexibility in terms of what you want it to do.

Shooting clay won't be a lot of fun with a single shot.

Here in the U.K. most people shoot clays with an over and under or a 3 shot automatic.

You can never go wrong with a Remington 870.

They're cheap, and easy to find. Get a used one for less than $300.

Reliable, and excellent quality.

Or Mossberg 500 or 590. Maybe a decade ago I would picked 870 over a Mossberg but quality has really gone down the drain with Remington lately.

I actually meant trap. Had the terms mixed up. To the people saying a 870, that's past my price range.

@intotheminx: Where do you live? Used mossberg or 870 are like 200~300s.

Psh. Never had a failure or stove-pipe with my personal or department 870. Great shotguns. I love Mossbergs though too.

TN. However, I made a purchase. I went with a Marlin 60 .22LR. I seen no reason for anything else since all I want it for is target practice, squirrel, and rabbit.
