I don't get it.. why would anyone over the age of 12 even consider admitting to liking this pony show? What is the benefit to it, do you get discounts on fedoras or XXL clothing? Do you become more of a gentleman by watching the show?

I just don't get it...

People think it makes them edgy and that they're making some kind of comment on society.

Me? I hardly watch TV in the first place and the stuff I do watch is usually more adult oriented (Walking Dead, Rick and Morty, American Horror Story).

Also, I fail to see what feminism has anything to do with being a Brony.

Why is it considered okay for women to like "mens" shows but not vice versa?

It seems women who like what males typically do are often considered cool, while it's more taboo for men to like anything geared towards the female gender.

I think the fact that we see the images posted as abnormal and a bit weird (but totally embrace a woman dressed as Boba Fett) does highlight some issues that feminism can deal with. (Maybe says more about the quality of media women/girls are fed, also.)

Anyways I watch the show with my little sis -- it's good! Not something I'd join a forum of, or cosplay as but it's a well written/animated show.

MLP is not a "womens" show. It is a show aimed at little girls. Not 18+ year old girls.

Because people like attention and they get attention if they do weird things. Notice all these people are the type of people who obviously suffer from a lack of attention outside of their Pony interests? Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them didn't even like the show - they just want buddies who will go on 4chan with them.

well there's a difference between just watching or even liking the show...and being a brony. They are like MLP fanboys, and some of them have creepy obsessions with cartoon characters

MLP movies exist since the 80's (I remember seeing it for rent at my local video store) and MLP cartoon series since the 90's =)

That is fine and all but it's still weird to describe yourself as a "Brony". Once your identity is defined by your hobbies, I think that's a little creepy. For instance I like True Detective but I'm not going to go around dressing like Rust or Marty.

While it's certainly not my cup of joe I see no reason why you would try to hide that you like the tv show. Basically the way I see it is if you are trying to keep your "cool" status by only admitting to liking adult shows then you are acting like a dumb little high school kid. Real men like whatever the hell the like without being embarrassed about it.

@Serraph105: I agree with you but being a "brony" is more than that. You can like something without acting like your existence is entirely defined by it. It's creepy and obsessive, regardless of what the obsession is.

Precisely, this stuff is like 30+ year old women making a cult following for Ben 10 or Bob the Builder or or something

Same. To be honest I was one of the guys who thought that merely liking the cartoon was weird and I didn't think much else of it. Then I saw one of the animated movies they did and thought it was pretty amusing. I decided to give it a chance and after watching a good majority of the episodes I thought it was a really funny cartoon. I can honestly see why people of varying ages and genders like it, but I still can't understand why people go to these cons and dress up for it and all.

Just a fad for losers to seem "edgy." Basically like the 80's with glam metal but nobody cool is doing it.

I never minded it, and it seems to be dying out.

Its actually a good show, just think powerpuff girls...but with ponies. I wouldn't cosplay it, thats too much even for me. Also, I like how these threads show the most obsessive and 'odd' looking fans.
