Rush has to be one of the most underrated rock bands of all time. I can think of few bands who have been together this long (since 1968 ) and still produce quality albums, tour regularly and continue to kick-ass. I think they are probably the most talented band of all time.

Geddy Lee is easily one of the best front men in the history of rock, and is probably one of the most talented musicians ever, singing, playing bass and keyboard, and somehow doing multiple of these at a time.

Alex Lifeson is an incredible and wholly original guitarrist, period. Awesome solos and great use of samples.

Neil Peart is widely considered one of the best drummers of all time, if not the very best. His drum set is simply ridiculous.

Together, the three of them sound like a 5 person band. Its sometimes hard to believe how only 3 musicians can produce such rich music. They'r e not afraid to experiment, so write epic and long songs. Their styl e is completely unique and original. It's truly amazing when a 10 minute instrumental song is considered a band's very best like La Villa Strangiato for Rush. The complexity of the music is sometimes simply insane. Althought they've been playing for years, their music still sounds fresh, relevant and original even today, which is truly remarkable.

Also, let me just say, I think its a travesty that they are still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. It's embarrasing, considering they influenzed dozens of artists who are already in the Hall.

If you have never heard Rush, I pity you. Let me introduce you to Tom Sawyer. And if you want to be blown away, here's 2112. Have you ever seen a crowd get so into a song on only the instrumental sections?

So, whats your favorite song? Favorite album? Favorite band member? Post your favorite songs in this thread! Discuss everything Rush!

Rush kick ass plain and simple. I understand reasons why people don't like this band, however I've met those that say they aren't talented. Usually when I stop the conversation.

MarioRPGer

This is where I stopped reading.

What I meant to say is that they are probably the 3 most talented musicians ever put in a band together. Neil Peart might be the best drummer of all time, Geddy Lee one of the top 10 bassists of all time and Alex Lifeson at least in the top 30 guitarrists of all time. Simply put, I dont think there is a greater ensemble in the history of rock music. Tell me of a band that can perform and multitask the way these guys do, and sound as rich as they do.In their respective instruments, these guys are as good as it gets. The only other band I would consider on their level is The Who, whose respective members also rank among the best of all time in each instrument. However, I give Rush more credit because they are a 3 member band, they have endured far longer, and their music still sounds fresh today.

Sure, they might not play as fast, or even as complex as some of today's bands, but thats hardly a criteria for judging talent. Think of all the innovations to music, the time they've been playing, the amount of records they've released over the years.

And also, why the hell are people comparing Rush to Radiohead? :?

Fantastic band. One of the most progressive and unique sounds of our time. The fact that they aren't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a travesty.

I had a good time atMid-South Coliseum in Memphis Tennessee for their Moving Pictures Tour back in 81. I have always been a big fan of their live music and have just about every DVD of their concert videos. Rush in Rio is a blast with the whole crowd actually singing to YYZ. A lot of people miss out on some great music. They are third in the number of songs and size of their library here on my PC behind Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

^I love that (they also sing along a bit during "La Villa Strangiato"), and just about all of the DVD's as well. They're really great live, especially when you consider how many shows they done over the years.

Underrated? No way. They have 24 gold records, 14 platinum records, three of which are multi platinum. I looked it up. If your band sells that many albums, they're not underrated.

I like Rush alright...they're really hit or miss for me. Some of it drags on and gets boring. Some of it is too busy. I was never crazy about Neil Peart's drumming either. It's a style thing. I play so I tend to pick out the drums when I first listen to a band. If I don't like what I hear there it turns me off pretty quick.

Okay, they aren't the most underrated. But I guess I meant in terms of recognition. The fact that they aren't in the Hall of Fame yet. And by personal experience, most of my friends and most people I know have no idea who they are.

Man I need to start getting into RUSH more. The songs I've listened to are fantastic (2112, YYZ, Subdivisions, Freewill etc..) but I havent ran through their whole catalouge like i've done with a few bands. (Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin). I'm currently working on Boston, Queen, The Doors and Megadeth so RUSH might take awhile..

And yes they're talented. Yet I would place Led Zeppelin as more talented because Bonham was better at drums (IMO).

Plus "Exit...Stage Left" has to be one of the best live albums ever made...

They are a good band and were once among my favourite bands, but overall I don't find them to be particularly outstanding. This is mostly because the majority of their work after Moving Pictures has been mediocre for the most part, and even their work from my favourite albums of theirs has always seemed a bit too empty.I won't deny that each of them are great musicians, but I think the band could have seriously benefitted from having a fourth or fifth member for several of their albums.

Xanadu (from A Farewell to Kings) is their Masterpiece ala Stairway to Heavan

Here it is in case you actually don't know it:

Fly By Night is one of my favorite songs from Rush, as is the equally named album.

Geddy Lee is by far my favorite band member. He's the definition of multi-tasker, and one hell of a bassist. Neil Pert and Alex Lifeson are beasts.

Rush is one hell of a band, one of the best trios ever made and my favorite still-existing rock group. Definitely underestimated; most of my friends who know it only know it because of Guitar Hero (it had YYZ, iirc -- a great song, also).

Geddy Lee's strong bass line in the first part of the song are awesome, not to mention Neil Peart's use of tubular bells sets it apart from Xanadu, not to mention part two is on Hemispheres. Don't get me wrong, I like Xanadu and enjoyed it in altered states of mind and getting it on with my GF at the time, but the sheer power of Cyngus X-1 makes it stand above Xanadu.

Yes! I've just recently been getting into their music. Still like Moving Pictures the most out of all of their albums.
