Wow, this sucks. That man was talented as shit.

Damn, why do all these celebrities feel the need to do drugs? Especially when you hear about other celebrities dying to them.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the social stigma of being a celebrity. They are human too and some of them need to find a way to take the edge off. Drugs, like alcohol, is one way to deal with the pressure of stepping into the spotlight...
Well...that's just my guess anyway...
It doesn't even have to be that complicated. People use drugs because drugs feel good. And when you're rich and successful, you can afford to buy lots of drugs.
heroin? really? **** man, he was a MASTER at the art of acting. the guy could do it all, comedy, drama, broadway, he was a true jack of all trades. i would have never imagined him as a junkie, this is a true loss. his performance in capote is one of the greatest to ever grace the silver screen.
My favorite roles of his were those he played in Mission Impossible III and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

I try to keep my anonymity on the internet, but I will comment that I work in Hollywood, and unfortunately, access to drugs is outrageous in the entertainment industry. It gets very hard to say no after awhile, though some of us still stay strong.
The thing about someone someone like Philip is he, like many of us, had a very addictive personality. It affects more of us than we might think. The drug addict's mind is quite similar to one who marathons games of Skyrim for eight hours, just channeled differently. It's that same mind that made him such a great talent, but when you channel that kind of personality into the wrong things, this is where you end up.
He'll be missed.
Just found out while looking on Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. It's a shame this had to happen.
He was an excellent actor, what a huge loss. Unlike most actors - this guy picked great roles and delivered on them.
I think the first time I ever saw him act was in welcome to the dollhouse, man.. what a fucked up movie that was.
Rip.
I read that his death comes alongside a bad batch of heroin going around the east coast...
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/02/lethal-batches-of-bad-heroin-hit-east-coast-the-same-week-philip-seymour-hoffman-died/
Authorities believe that most of the deaths were related to heroin laced with fentanyl, a powerful narcotic typically prescribed to terminal cancer patients as means of pain management.
It is 100 times more powerful than morphine, and in combination with heroin can shut down the respiratory system of users.
Sad, hope friends and family are well. I honestly don't know his work much. Only thing that comes to mind is Catching Fire, hope those films will be able to stay the course. CF was a huge step up from THG.
EDIT: Oh shit, he was the guy in Twister, he was great in that movie! Well, damn.
So... about Hunger Games. What now?
Yeah I am wondering about this. There are 2 movies to come and I am not sure how much filming they have gotten done on said movies.
An absolute shame BTW and may he RIP. Not OVERLY familiar with a lot of his work, but there was no denying his AMAZING acting ability anytime he was on the screen. Definitely a huge loss for the industry.

Mocking Jay part 1 is in post production so his part in that film has already been acted out. Part 2 however is still filming and I would imagine they will now have to reconsider his character before proceeding.
Motherfucker. WTF. Perhaps my favorite actor, fucking drugs. Unbelievable.
Drugs? Not sure why people get involved in that but RIP.
Damn, they're definitely going to cast someone to replace him in the hunger games because the 1st part wasn't even halfway done...
No clue who he is. Googled him and still no clue. Never seen any of his movies I guess.
in the same boat. this first i've heard of him
I can understand the name not ringing any bells, happens to the best of us, but if you've truly not seen any film he's been in then you're living under a rock.
Really sad, too hard to believe. He was a great person with a lot of heart.
I almost cried when I heard the news of his passing. I just hope that his family is doing alright.
At least one things for sure, he's in the most beautiful place that exists... with God and all the angels at his side.
@LostProphetFLCL: @Gaming-Planet: His filming was basically done. He had a week left on Mocking Jay 2, which I'm assuming means they'll change up part of the script to make it work the best they can. Unfortunately, that means some of the petty fans of the book are going to complain about it not being 100% accurate.
Like him in Boogie Nights and Red Dragon. He was kind of creepy but was a great actor and had hell of a stage presence.
^^Could've at least picked pictures of actors who somewhat resemble PSH or maybe someone like Dustin Hoffman because of the name
0/10 worst new troll
In MI: 3 Tom Cruise dresses up as him completely. Didn't know if you hadn't seen the movie or got the reference.

Oh, please. C'mon, son.
Its a shame when anyone is lost to addiction. But, in proper perspective, this is nothing more than the sad (and untimely) passing of another junkie - shouldnt be any more or any less important to society at large just because he happened to be a celebrity.

Loved him in Boogie Nights, though it can't compete with King Raptor's extreme of the Dusty, his role was pretty classic. I cringe whenever I watch this:
Hoffman was such an amicable guy like Hanks is. Hard to dislike him, and he was suck a great actor. He was just recently in the Hunger Games sequel so I'm wondering how they're going to rewrite the script for the third or who they'll use as a replacement? Really sad. We'll miss you Hoff. I'm always expecting to hear Robert Downey being found OD'd, not to say I'd wish it but news like that wouldn't surprise me at all. I didn't even realize Hoffman had struggled with addiction in the past.
So sad. Rest easy Phil and thanks for your work.
@MirkoS77: His filming for the third Hunger Games is already done, and he was seven days away from finishing filming the fourth one, so they won't have to tweak that much.

Great to hear. They'll probably be tributed to him at the end I'd imagine.

He was more important to society than, lets say, a cashier at Wal-Mart. That cashier didn't inspire me with his line delivery or provided me pleasure with his magnetic screen presence. That cashier didn't brought to life complex characters in a way I could identify or relate with. An OD-ing cashier at Wal-Mart is replaceable. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is not. And that is that.
Meh, Heath Ledger did it first.
Terrible and untimely joke aside, you don't actually believe that Heath Ledger was the first actor to die of a drug overdose, do you?
On topic: That is truly shitty. I haven't seen as many of his movies as I'd like to have, but I have a feeling I'll be watching a ton of them in upcoming months. The one that always comes to my mind when I think of him is Red Dragon. But that's because I love that movie, have seen it dozens of times, and PSH flawlessly brought Freddy Lounds to the screen, exactly as I always imagined him when reading the book.
Also, untimely as it may have been, I got a chuckle out of the Tom Cruise joke post on the first page.
Really enjoyed him in Capote and Along Came Polly. He was an amazing actor and talent, and it's damn shame he died of a drug overdose. I feel bad for his kids and his family

I just saw this & LMAO, you serious brah ? He's more important cuz he entertained you ? You know that cashier is not replaceable to his family though right ? LOL some celebs are cool & all but come the **** on man, they're no better than you, I or anyone else. More influential ? Yup.
