I just saw the topic title and thought 'The Rats in the Walls' by H.P. Lovecraft... only story to make me feel scared... and I was 29 when I read it!! I'm not usually into horror though, so other than that I can't really recommend anything.

It's been a long time sense I've been frightened by a book, but the last one to actually scare me was this one.

I like "It" by Stephen King. Although I never get scared from any book. But "It" is a really good book.

Read some Dan Simmons. Start with "Summer of Night" then read its sequel, "A Winter Haunting".

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. As I was reading it, it made me afraid to step into anywhere that was dark.

Good one.

Cant really recommend any specific books, but ones like this, where there are many short stories inside are truely scary, they always make me glance over my shoulder.
