Hmmm.....I see why they want to keep it. It proved he was full of sh*t.[QUOTE="BossPerson"]He has some good things to say, and his research on the connections between corporations and political groups is very thorough and well-researched. He also has many contradictory opinions. He'll talk about how the State is what creates maintains corporate power (as his own research shows), but will then say that the State is the only thing protecting us from corporate tyranny. In general, he buys into the mainstream leftist idea that State power and corporate power are separate entities, instead of part of the same power structure (this idea is also supported by rightists, but from the opposite perspective). The research he's done contradicts this, but he doesn't internalize the implications of that. I don't think this is a fair take on Chomsky's views, his support of various state initiatives are a lot more nuanced than him just him buying into some idea about state power and corporate power being completely separate entities. The defining attribute of Chomsky's political activism is that he never asks for the moon - he does not waste his time writing long treatises about unrealistic anarchist goals, and this is something that he has talked about directly. To him such radical idealism amounts to nothing more than mere academic seminars that have no hope of having any real world influence any time soon. So to be relevant and not ignore the immediate problems that society faces in today's world he advocates policies along the lines of the existing political paradigm. It's not so much that these are "contradictions" as much as they are examples of him just being pragmatic.Rhazanka,
briefly, whats your general opinion of chomsky?Â

Obama has no respect for this country's history or for its past leaders. He only cares about change. He only cares about moving "forward" to his collectivist dystopia. He wants people to forget what happened before him. He wants people to forget that things can be different, and were different.Laihendi[QUOTE="tagyhag"]"The "childhood home" is an apartment Reagan lived in for less than a year as a young child, and its planned demolition is part of an expansion by the University of Chicago that has nothing to do with President Obama's presidential library. It's funny how many conservatives claim that liberals treat Obama as a messiah and then go onto to worship Reagan.
Many liberals were too fvcking excited about Obama, didn't pay attention to his actual platform, and as a result were dissapointed, but atleast they critisize him now even if they were hopelessly naive in 2008.
On the other hand, one can't say a slightly negative word about Saint Ronald without igniting conservative fury.
Before we let this thread die, can we just take a minute to reflect on the fact that the same sort of people who tell us to open our eyes, think critically, and not act like sheep to the information fed to us...immediately jumped on this news story without realising that it was complete and utter ****
Well, okay, I'm mainly just talking about Lai. But hopefully something is starting to sink in, after so many misinformation-filled topics.
Maybe he just decided not to reply and to quit while he was behind. Is OP a troll? He makes this thread and when he get's proved wrong beyond destruction, he doesn't reply. Seems like he's just here to create chaos.

I have a lot of liberal friends, and I've never heard any worship for FDR. Perhaps a little for Kennedy. A lot more for Lincoln. And he was a Republican. OMG

He was a republican but we ruled like a left wing (by modern standards) statist. And liberals do worship FDR. Anytime someone criticizes him they will defend him, and they will never admit that the things he did were bad no matter what.[QUOTE="jimkabrhel"][QUOTE="Laihendi"] Liberals are the same way about FDR. In fact its a posterchild of government abuses, right up there with other such things.

Well most liberals like to forget about that tbh. Truth is, he is in fact liked quite a bit by what we would call "liberals." They like to claim him as a strong progressive who pushed for a more egalitarian society.Liberals are the same way about FDR. I do not particularly like Reagan by the way.[QUOTE="Laihendi"]

Lucky you. I know some Reps that canonized him already....I know lai might break down over the news I'm about to tell him but....there will never be a libertarian president in his lifetime. Nor will any major scale libertarian policies (e.g. elimination of medicare, medicaid, social security, etc) will take place.
You need a shoulder, lai?
I could just've ignored this thread, but..
Looks like I made a big mistake with this one. Should've done more research before I posted. My b guys.

The information posted in the OP is flat out false. The University of Chicago purchased the building and plans to demolish to to expand their science facilities. Nothing to do with a library (public or presidential) or Obama.
