it means a hammer-on. You kinda jab at the string on the 7th fret, instead of plucking it

play the 5 and then when that note is still ringing take your finger off the 5 and push down on the 7... it should make the noise of playing the 7 if you push hard enough..... I just started too :) What songs are you learning ?

proctorsurf was correct, except dont take your 5th finger off, just play the note on the 5 then slam another finger down fairly hard on the 7th fret

As long as there's a thread about this stuff already....I have a question too!

What does p mean?  Like if I read p7?  I think it means pull....but how do I do it?

well in order to do a pull off you need at least two notes for example 9-7 you put your ring finger at 9 and put your pointer finger at 7, strike the string with both fingers on it then remove your ring finger but leave your pointer finger. However if it only says: p7 then that may mean a pinch harmonic which is done by gently brushing the string with your finger after you have plucked it, this can be difficult to do at first but with practice you will be fine
