You see, I want to move the icons from my main desktop into the windows search bar, but some of the files on the desktop are not shortcuts, so I can't just delete them, since they are important for use of the laaptop. Help would be appreciated.

Move folders off desktop, create shortcuts to them, put shortcuts in taskbar, profit?

Pretty much. You shouldn't have important files on your desktop, especially if they're required for your computer to run properly.

No, but I want to place them all away, so that the onlything on the desktop would be the Recyle Bin and Firefox

Note: This is Windows XP. 1) Move all that stuff into a folder. 2) Right click on start menu 3) Click "Open" 4) Open "Programs" folder 5) Drag and drop into Programs 6) Done.

What?

Oh. Nothing.

Is it because I didn't know what Start Menu was? Honestly I don't know everything, and the little things like that aren't important to me.

What version of Windows are you running? You should be able to just drag the shortcuts from your desktop to the start menu. As for the important folders on your desktop, you should move them to a more appropriate location, like program files for example, then you could pin a shortcut to it on your start menu if you need to access it frequently.

Have you managed to do it?

For future reference, this sort of question would probably be better suited for the PC Hardware Discussion forum.

Although it might not be specifically for software, that's where most of the tech heads hang out.
