I knew there were a number of Americans who believed this, but 25%? Holy shit.

That's about even with the amount of people who can't even read or write in a large part of the arab world, especially if you happen to be a woman.
Hey, at least they keep up with the Kardashians, right?
There's stupid people everywhere...I recently heard someone saying that it's impossible for the Earth to rotate otherwise everybody would be falling over all the time.
"Only 39 percent answered correctly with "true" when asked if "The universe began with a huge explosion," while only 48 percent knew that "Human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals," according to the statement."
this is stupid because they're questions designed specifically to potentially conflict with a person's religious views. while they may know that science indicates otherwise to these questions, they may answer them in the negative as it conflicts with their religious beliefs.

If the Earth were spinning we'd be DIZZY. Just stand up and spin in circles for a minute if you don't believe me.
Articles like that make me cringe.
The other three quarters think the sun revolves around 'murica
Cuz nothin' sayz gravity lik FREEDOM!
Has to be fake. There's just no way that 25% of Americans are that stupid. I mean, 25 percent of Americans being dumb is probably realistic. But stupid enough to believe the sun evolves around the earth? I don't buy that, poll has to be fake or have been trolled.
@speedfreak48t5p: That's the problem with polls. 25% of those questioned can't be translated into 25% of US pop. It's like me going into a catholic school for a poll and saying 98% of the people in my country believe in God.
If the sample size was large enough and the sampling methods done correctly, it would actually be fairly close statically.

Yeah, that's kinda an issue I see during electoral campaigns. 57% in favor for the Conservatives? Cool, where did you poll these people, Alberta?
I agree with the first comment on that article. Those who actually answer the phones are usually the dumb ones. Most people are smart enough not to answer the phone. I wouldn't answer the phone especially if the number isn't on my contact list.

Another day....another Gaza insult at America. Such insecurity.....
I'm one of those who get ticked off by repeated phone calls from pollsters. I definitely would lie if I get ticked off enough to answer.
I am not surprised after seeing interviews of college students and other citizens that could not answer some very simple question on different topics at different time. As an example one session was asking individuals what ocean was on what coast or who was the current vice president.

i always wonder about those videos how many people were edited out because they knew the answers.

Are you a psychologist, how do you know he's insecure? Maybe you might be the insecure one for replying to him.

I fail to see the fallacy in that.

That's not how polls work though...
@deeliman: So polls don't work with a small subset of the population and extrapolate the results into the whole of the population?

lol. good point
yep, and earth revolves around god.
anyway we may not be very smart but we make up for it with our misplaced aggression.

"25% of those questioned can't be translated into 25% of US pop. It's like me going into a catholic school for a poll and saying 98% of the people in my country believe in God."
I was talking about your comparison, which is a faulty one, since the sample sizes of polls are random, but you are implying that they aren't. And yes, with a representative sample size of this study you can extrapolate the results to everyone. The random parameter will reduce the biases you're concerned about. Yeah, if you ask a large amount of people in the same area and you get these results then that's just bad surveying and THEN you can make your claim. Every study ever (one's that say "# in # insert country here believes insert topic here") is performed this way.
@deeliman: Oh yeah, the catholic school example was a (attempt at humorous) exaggeration. Still, no matter the sample size you can never truly be sure that the poll is accurate. Like other people said you have dumb people but you also have the trolls and most intelligent people I know wouldn't answer a poll while a lot of stupid people I know tell me they feel smart for answering them. Not to mention that even if you asked half the population of a country doesn't guarantee that the half you didn't ask doesn't have the biggest concentration of people who think otherwise.
where the hell do these 25% live then? i'm pretty certain if i asked that question to EVERY person i knew i would get the correct answer.
2,200 people? All in elementary school? Why didn't they release the demographic of who was actually surveyed?
I would like to know how the poll was taken. Chances are a decent amount of the people that gave that answer were just trolling anyway since when you are anonymous you will say stupid shit just for the LOL factor.
If they sent me the poll via snail mail with prepaid postage, I'd answer truthfully and mail it back. But, most of the time, they're too cheap to do that and would call at the most inconvenient time.
Some of them are persistent enough to keep calling to the point the person they're calling isn't in a good mood anymore.
Quarter of Americans also happen to be poll trolls.
This. And a low sample size. Poll is BS.

Yes. Yes I am. And if you want to pay me I can give you your diagnosis. It's not pretty bro....
@korvus: %%$
Considering I don't spend my time here taking a shot at his country every chance I get.....it was a stupid comparison. But thanks for playing.
