Am I the only person who found the footage to be hilarious? The women being beaten was more comical than it was horrofic; the strikes seemed harmless and not very painful. The entire incident was ridiculous; the sight of the women jumping around while masked and the sight of the officers whipping them were so goofy. How could anyone take any of this seriously?

Though technically most of us are as you say white, the cultural, political and religious differences makes me wanna say "no". We tend to identify ourselves more through neighbouring countries instead, the different regions of Europe if you will. (Scandinavia, Baltic States, British Isles etc.) Though I'm sure many would disagree. First and foremost Europe is a continent, filled with different countrymen I would say.

I'm Scandinavian, I can't really speak for the Russians, Russia is so big it's almost a "continent" in it's own right and house 27 different languages considered official in various regions. Many Ukranians can speak Russian but I'm not gonna touch that subject. Generally I guess we identify us with the countries closest to our own both through culture and language, though there have been bad blood between many neighbouring countries up through history there are regional ties binding them together. (language, music, food, drink, climate) etc. making them feel more connected than other areas. I feel more connected with a sweede than I would an italian, because we can enjoy a conversation by using our native tongue with a snus in our lip (scandiavian tobacco) and a black coffee in the hand.

I'm certain they see each other as differing groups for sure. The cultural and linguistic differences means they probably see each other as rivals, rather than as part of one single unified race. A German would be seen as a foreigner in France, for example. He/she wouldn't be welcomed in open arms just for having similar skin color and facial features as some French people.
