I have been getting into pro rock and metal lately, and was wondering if you guys could recommend me some of the your favorite ones.

There are many types of prog rock bands, ones that utilise different genres from blues to jazz to metal to synthpop (not really but yaknowwhatimean?), so I'll list ones that may be more what you're looking for first and a few that may be of interest but might not be.

Porcupine Tree
Oceansize
Riverside
Okkervil River
Anekdoten
The Pineapple Thief
Phideuax
Frost*
Rush
Pink Floyd
Alcatraz
King Crimson
North Atlantic Oscillation

If you want some boss jazz-fusion prog rock with occasional metal, check out Mindflower's Nuances.

Oh boy, you are in for a massive genre, but a lot of the stuff you will not hear about from the mainstream media. Rush and Pink Floyd are obvious. Porcupine tree: also have various different ypes of songs, with atmosphere and layered/classical style compositions. Anathema: Same as above. Ozric Tentacles: Psychedelic. Dream Theater, Opeth, Aggalloch, OSI, Mastodon: are mostly metal, but with a number of slower songs. Riverside, Lunatic Soul: Polish prog. Amplifier: post rock/prog. Tides from Nebula, Animals as Leaders: Relatively lighter Instumentals, more focus on chords higher up. Antimatter, Pinapple Thief, Karnivool: Somewhat standard rock feel to them. Genesis: ol'school prog. Nosound, Gazpacho, Noman: More on the slower/emotional side. Katatonia: Not really prog, but still enjoyable. Nine inch nails: Still classify with their dark/ industrial sound. Tool: Heavily focused on the bassline. More names on demand :P

Gonna add Genesis to this list, and Gentle Giant.

To go more in depth, if you're interested in the more polished-sounding Collins era, get Duke and Wind and Wuthering.

If you're more interested in the less accessible Gabriel era, check out Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is the one that gets the most attention, but I honestly find that album to be pretty uneven.

Or Yes!

Well, I personally can't stand Yes's prog rock. Funnily enough, I think they are better as a pop/rock band. I'd take Owner of a Lonely Heart over Roundabout any day.

Glad to see some Steven Wilson love on here. I prefer the style of his solo stuff over his work with Porcupine Tree.

I'm expecting some great things from his next album after hearing this.
