So yeah, blip ITunes, it doesn't let me play FLAC files and I have decided to change now rather than let this go on any longer and regretting it even more later on. I have done some research and the same names keep coming up:

  • MusicBee
  • foobar2000
  • MediaMonkey
  • Winamp

Do any of you guys/gals use one of these? What has been your experience?

Also I would like to know if I could transfer my "play count" from ITunes, meaning if any of these players would recognize from ITunes the number of times I have played each song or if I could do it manually?

Thanks!

@Master_Live:

Yup, screw iTunes. Bloated piece of crap. The #1 reason I never bought an iPod or an iPhone.

Winamp was an old favourite of mine, until it went belly-up. Lots of features, pretty lightweight, though the UI can get a bit messy. I was told they now have a new owner and are developing it again, but I have yet to see the results.

foobar2000 became my new favourite. Very lightweight, very customizable, though maybe a bit bare-bones. Still, it gets the job done, and that's all that matters to me.

I have to say, MusicBee has grown on me big time. The UI was a whole lot of mess at first, but once I dug into its myriad of customization and settings, I was able to get it just the way I like it. It's now my main music player, though I still keep foobar2000 as a backup.

I have no experience with MediaMonkey.

No idea. I doubt the library data are compatible, and so unless other players have tools specifically to transfer them, I suppose you'll have to do it your self.

Only ever have really used Windows Media Player and Winamp. Usually just use WMP.

Spotify doesn't show song play count like iTunes. Never tried iTunes Radio, I like Pandora.

So it turns out that Music Bee indeed transfers my iTunes play count!
